So... a new scenario has emerged, there are reports that McCarthy has a clause in his contract to leave at the end of this season to succeed Trappatoni. McCarthy has said that he would like to go back but when there is a vacancy, he wouldn't want to put anyone under pressure. So.. it looks like it's £2m for keeping us up this season, or £1m if we're relegated, then on your way and back to square one for the club in the summer.
I have to say I have tried to put a positive spin on things and the best I can come up with is put it to the back of my mind (bury my head in the sand) and hope that Trappatoni pulls off a recovery or FAI don't want MM, or that ME wasn't daft enough to allow himself (and his club) get bent over a barrell in such a way. This is a concern, but right now the state of Ipswich Town is of far more concern to us and we will cross the Ireland bridge if/when we come to it, but for now MM is Ipswich manager and Trappatoni is Ireland manager and I'm expecting that to stay that way until next Summer It does beg the question, if ME know about this why did we go for MM when we were apparently courting Holloway and others?
I don't think Holloway spoke to Ipswich. If he keeps us up then it's hard to call it a bad decision. I think it's very likely Trap will be off though. We will have to wait and see.
where the hell did this story come from? EDITED - just found it. Sounds like a complete work of fiction from start to finish. I cant see us paying him £1m a year considering our recent financial tightness. (considering our entire wage bill is £6m) If he works out for us then why would we let him walk away and if he was a standout candidate for the ROI then why wouldnt they be willing to pay us compo. Considering how few (relatively) international games there are in a year why wait until next summer if they want to have a change. If they knew they wanted him they could have done so 3 weeks ago at no additional cost.
I have a horrible "back of the mind feeling" that there is some truth in this. Sometimes when MM talks about Ipswich he often uses the pronoun "they". Definately hope he isnt a simple caretaker manager brought in to keep us out relegation. On the other side of the coin I doubt that Marcus Evans would go for someone just for the short turn. MM's simple arrival brought some new optimism to everyone and 6 points out of 9 has increased most supporters moral. Maybe we have been so down over the recent years that we are seeing shadows when none exist. I honestly hope so.
The £1m + £1m bonus I don't think is in any doubt. The contract clause may be but it sounds very likely given McCarthy's own comments on the matter.
Terry Connor has also expressed a wish to one day being a number one, after doing a short stint at Wolves.
Not sure where you've got that from, your wage bill totalled £13.73 million in your 2010/11 accounts and though they may have reduced a bit, they haven't more than halved. You've still got some high earning players and your wage bill will be over £10m.
Thanks for your certainty but I got it from the club itself unless you know better?. Jewell said when we played Wolves that the parachute payment system was showing an unfair advantage to the relegated clubs when they could afford to have a £20m (? cant remember his exact figure) wage bill and we are operating on one of £6m. I know what our wage bill has been like. It is one of my biggest arguments against the way our club is run. We have knocked millions from it each season (2010/2011 accounts show one of £17m) yet the club has never mentioned anything about down sizing and still maintain the 'constant push for promotion'
Just got the details from the review of your accounts for 2010/11 that showed player wages at £13.73m and total wages at £17.05m. http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/19537 It came up in a discussion on our board a while back on different wage bills at each Championship club. Ours has been ridiculously high for the past few years and we've still got a couple of players on Premier League hangover wages, though fortunately that finishes at the end of this season.
Before MM was appointed I said that it would be good if we could get Mick until the end of the year, help stabilise the team and bring a younger manager in during the summer. I didn't think it might actually turn out that way though As things stand at the moment I would much rather see what he could do for us over the course of his contract. If he was to stay until the end I think he would leave us in a much better position, on and off the pitch, than the shambles he took over. If there is any truth in this rumour then it raises the question of whether or not Marcus will fully back Mick in the transfer window if there is a feeling he could be gone in a few months. In fact will he back him at any point knowing that he could leave as soon as the ROI job comes up, a strange situation to say the least. For me, the one million bonus could've been offered to the players, not the manager, to improve performances. In reality neither should need such a dangling carrot to do their jobs properly.
according to inside sources who have spoken to the evening star then the bonus is nowhere near £1m but I do agree with you on what you are saying. On paper we should be a mid table team. I would agree on a bonus if we one that league but not one that means we could finish in our worst position since......? Its like saying well done for under performing. I wouldnt mind it if I could get away with it though. Not try very hard at work for 3 months and then the boss comes up to me and says 'get back to your previous work levels and I will pay you a bonus!'
This is all complete nonsense. MM is here until at least 2014 which is when his contract expires end of story
Now I think about, PJ must be thinking 'you're willing to give a one off payment of 1m to Mick, where was that money when I tried to sign <insert name of missed target>' That money could've gone towards a player that we would own for longer than the end of the season and could've helped Jewell's problems on the pitch. A funny way to run a football club.
Well I'm glad you cleared that all up, I was getting a bit worried there, but now we have it on good authority that ROI will not be sniffing around MM from JWM we should just forget the whole discussion and get on with our lives...
Football isn't played on paper though is it TB! You need someone to lead the team and give it direction and to come up with winning tactics. On paper I wouldn't say that Palace or Huddersfield or Brighton were all that but on the pitch they have proved that they are!
Don't put your head in the sand over this one JWM. How long do you think it will take Mick to get pissed off at Clegg and wish he hadn't taken the job? Of course I hope that's not the case but anything can happen in football.
That's funny KOPR because I haven't seen or heard anything to suggest that the FAI have been sniffing around unless you know different? If the FAI were desperate to replace Trappatoni (which is highly unlikely as they can't afford to pay him off) then why didn't they approach MM when he was free and available? This is a complete non story and just another attempt by dear esteemed moderator to **** stir!
Its actually taken from a major irish newspaper. lancs didnt link it but you can find in on google very quickly
