Here's an interesting fact about Schwarzer that I have shamelessley pinched from Garth Crookes. Did you know? Only David James (169) has kept more clean sheets in the history of the Premier League than Mark Schwarzer (143). I know his distribution has been a bit suspect this season but overall he's a superb keeper. COYW
Hear, hear. I got shouted down for this a year or so back, but he's the best Fulham keeper I can remember (I was taken to task for putting him ahead of Van der Saar).
I agree completely. One of the nice things about Mark is that he doesn't go berzerk when one of his defenders screws up, screaming and yelling and throwing is arms about like the world's coming to an end (ala Tim Howard). He has a smile on his face most of the time and rarely comes unglued.
In all my years of watching Fulham, and all our goalkeepers, many who have been excekkent, I rate MS as the best. My Choice. 1 Mark Swartzer 2 V D S. 3 Ian Black 4 Tony Macedo 5 A Naimi, K Keller. M Taylor.
One 'a' please Captain, it's 'Van Der Sar' And I think I would go with VDS as our best ever, purely because he was playing when I was young and at the time he was the best thing since sliced bread. Schwarz is the cat's pyjamas though.
I'm a great believer in Mark, but regret to say he is my #2. Edwin VdS has to remain #1 - great 'keeper with skills as "sweeper".
We've a lot to thank Mark Schatrzer for but I'd put him third, behind Edwin Van der Sar and Tony Macedo.
I was surprised to find MS in Crooks's team of the week to be honest. He only made one good save from open play (Giroud) and of course the penalty which was a very good stop, but after watching Jaaskelainen (spelling) against Newcastle, he got it for me, clean sheet and a number of great saves. The fact that Berbatov was selected ahead of Ruiz shows how little BBC pundits follow our matches. They see Berbatov scores two and makes one and automatically assume that he was our best player. In many cases, this would be correct, but for me Ruiz was our best player on Saturday, not Berbatov.
Mark has been nominated for Asian International Player of the Year. The winner will be announced on 29th November. http://thehimalayantimes.com/fullNews.php?headline=Kagawa+and+Schwarzer+nominated+for+new+AFC+award&NewsID=354688
And the winner was .... somebody who has hardly played at all for Manchester United. What a SWIZZ !!!
I'd have to agree that Mark has been great for us, but he comes in as No2 in my list of Fulham keepers If we hadn't had Van der Sar I think we'd have been relegated during our formative Premier years. Although at the time I thought Maik Taylor was hard done by as he was playing well. I wonder if the rumors were true that Jol had tried to get Maarten Stekelenburg from Roma during the summer window.
Kagawa was a regular for United at the start of the season and only lost his place through injury. And most of the period covered by the award was before he came to England. He still seems a worthy winner to me. Shame Mark didn't get it, though.
