I think it was so typically Watford , that Duncan and his wife were invited to the end of season do and indeed to inaugurate Duncan into the Watford hall of fame! A lot of people there had obviously been sponsors for years and knew each other well ! Duncan and his wife looked a little overwhelmed at the start of proceedings and I was on my own as well! Duncans wife started chatting to me (and I will admit it took me awhile to figure out who he was,as was before my time!) they were a lovely couple, and I was chatting to them for a good twenty minutes or so ! Duncan giving some lovely anecdotes on how it was then(transferred from grimsby for ã1500 and on the day President Kennedy was asassinated). He went on to tell me about a lot less subbing in those days and if you got injured you got put out on the wing to try and finish the game! He told me about a knock he took where he was kicked in the nose was out cold brought round by the cold sponge ,had is nose taped up to stop some skin flapping in the breeze, he then played on for 20 mins to HT where he had it stitched up and then back out for the second half!!!!! You wouldnt see that these days!
A great defender in my eyes Norway as shown by the number of games he played. With us for eleven seasons I think, something else you see little of these days. I believe that Ollie P had something to say about him.....they are both older than me by the way.
Was excellent to talk and shake the hands of so many Watford legends! MM in his Kilt is a scary sight
So we don't know if he is a "true" Scot then - remiss of you N - there ae some things you do because you have to
I remember Welbourne - alongside a chap called Williams and there was another "W" as part of the Watford of those days - the name will come back to me (or I will have to hunt through some of my old programmes)
Of course it was OFH - jeeez - I am clearly getting too old - how could I let his name slip my memory? He was fantastic
H- I have to confess that while I am "brave" from my armchair I would not have been lifting any Kilts - but if it could have got N a black eye .......
W_Y - my excuse is that in general I like to know my enemy - and there are few Scots who do not consider the English as enemies.
The thing that MM did tell me was that there was no way he was ever going to go to Burnley! Which was nice and showed loyalty to the club ! Also whilst on the subject of loyalty I was chatting to Micheal Bryan and asked him what Danny was like! He said DG loves it here and wouldnt move to another championship club ! If a prem team came in for him though ,then obviously they all want to pay in the top division! I think we can say the same of MM as well! all depends on Mr B I guess
