Good point today, one which many of us didn't think we'd pick up. Only 3 players picked up points for the correct result (Gerrez, Chris. & Poolliver) however only Chris. correctly got the 1-1 prediction, to add to his scorer of Suarez to pick up the maximum 10 points. Most others got the 5 for the usual scorer, with only 2 others predicting a different scorer, Waterdude & Fordeckdave (#sillymistake)

And on that point is where I'm going to slightly amend the scoring from now on in. With Suarez becoming too predictable, from now on, forwards will score 3 points for a goal, midfielders 5 points and defenders 7 points. Any hatrick will still get a 5 points bonus, whether they are a forward/midfielder or defender though. If people don't like it then may revert back, but think at the moment it's too easy to just predict Suarez, so this should add a little more risk/reward. Also, if you predict the correct goal difference (eg you predict 1-0 and it's 2-1) you'll get a bonus point. This is only for incorrect scores though, so no extra points if you go for 1-0 and it is 1-0)

Now, arguements could be had about Stering/Suso and whether they are forwards/midfielders etc, so I'm going to base it on the Liverpool section of the bbc website http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool

So, our next game is at home to Wigan next Saturday at 3pm. Post your predictions here along with 1 Liverpool scorer. Points awarded for correct score/result/scorer.

  3. Liverpool 3-1 Wigan (Suarez)

I know it was my suggestion to try a deter people from picking suarez but it is not enough incentive when we all know who is most likely to score IMO. The only way people won't pick Suarez is if you take him out of the equation <ok>

(Not voted as I don't know which option to pick. I like that your thinking of making it more interesting but don't think the idea will do it)

I've added a poll, so will see what the views are come Saturday and will go with the majority. Just trying to do something to make things a bit more interesting!

I think scorer should be 3 points as it's harder to predict correct result. MF and defence should score 4.

Also a bonus point or 2 for correct goal difference. So if you predict a 3-1 and it's a 2-0 or 4-2 you get a bonus.

  7. I like this but might be making it a little complicated for IBWT to work out the scores <ok>

    Bless him. <laugh>

The alternative is get rid of the scorer.
    5 points for correct score.
1 point for correct result (WLD)
2 points for correct result and goal difference.

By the way, my prediction for next week.

    Liverpool 2 - 1 Wigan (Suarez)

Ok, taken the couple of comments on board and have amended the rules and original post.

    3 points for a forward scoring. 5 points for a midfielders. 7 points for a defender/GK.

Also, if you predict the correct result, but wrong score, you'll get a bonus point if you get the correct goal difference. For example if you predict a 1-0 win and it's 2-1 or 3-2 etc then you'll get 3 points instead of the usual 2.

feel free to vote on the new rules, and leave comments along with your normal prediction and we'll see what the general opinion is.

I like everything you said there. I can't vote from my phone so thought I'd tell you. More incentive when there is a much greater gap between strikers and defence, I like it.

  11. That will be more encouraging but still not quite what I meant. You could offer three point for the forwards, and twenty for any other position, most would still choose Suarez because he IS likely to score. Of course, Suarez would have to score seven to any other correctly predicted player <ok>

Look at it in terms of placing a bet. If Suarez is going at 2-1 to score but Carragher is going at 50-1, which do you bet on...? Yes, you would get a much better return on Carragher but will he actually score?

Or... Could keep rules/scoring as they were but just say you can't pick for goal scorer anyone that scored in the previous game.

Liverpool 3 Wigan 0 (or less than 0)
    Suarez

Leave it as it is, imo.
It's not our fault Suarez is the only one capable of scoring. We're asked to predict the scorer, which we duly do. If we all do it then it'll even out surely?
Perhaps offer an extra point for correct scorer that isn't Suarez.

    Liverpool 4-1 Wigan
    Guess who?
    Suarez.

How many points would I have received for my Mystic Meg-esque OG prediction? Can scores be back dated under the new rules? <laugh>

Personally I think the goal difference thing's too much. Like the idea of upping the rewards for midfielders and defenders though <ok>
