" The Sunday Times: US tycoon joins fight to buy Leeds #LUFC

A US businessman with a personal wealth of over $250m jetted into London yesterday having offered Leeds United owner and chairman Ken Bates an alternative option for the sale of the Championship club.

Preston Haskell, who until recently owned a minority stake in the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL franchise with his family, has proposed an investment into the Championship club that would surpass the funds Bahraini investment company GFH Capital has tabled.

In addition to the new equity Haskell wants to invest in Leeds, an immediate £10m would be made available to manager Neil Warnock to strengthen his squad. The American's stated aim is to first achieve promotion to the Premier League and ultimately return Leeds United to contention at the summit of the domestic and European game.

“I look at Leeds United as a long-term investment,” Haskell said. “As a businessman I see a club that has an incredible brand and that offers a great entrepreneurial opportunity to take it back to the level which it saw in its glory days. Leeds is a well-managed club from Ken Bates down to Neil Warnock, and I have great respect for that aspect of its operations."

Haskell, 46, made his fortune as an entrepreneur in Moscow real estate and, most recently, with mining in Siberia and Africa. He has extensive investments in the Democratic Republic of Congo and is prepared to finance the proposed investment in Leeds United entirely with cash.

The American has been working on his bid since mid-August, attending the Championship fixture with Hull City with his long-term business partner Ted Sullivan, who will join the Leeds board if the approach succeeds. A key aspect of his proposed investment would be to buy the club's Elland Road stadium and Thorp Arch training ground back out of lease. "

And you didn't read what I wrote then, eh? He will get something right at some point, but it still sounds...

    <doh>

Why jump to conclusions instead of thinking about the actual words written and what they mean?

I did read what you wrote.

"he again sounds like a boy who cries wolf too often"

Again - Suggests he does it constantly

Boy who cries wolf- Suggests he's a liar, reference to the fairytale

Too often- Suggests that you're becoming sick of his 'lies', that you simply don't believe him cos he's spouted his **** too much.

The part about saying he's going to get something right at some point is just you trying to cover yourself in case you're wrong. So you can say "LOOK I ALWAYS BELIEVED HIM, I WAS RIGHT!!!".

I have to ask, do you read what you write? Then you realise how much of a tit you sound

So how does this work? The American does due diligence all over again. After three months or whatever on reaching agreement he then makes 10 million available to Warnock. By then well be in bottom three and Warnock will be long gone. Too much time has already been wasted. Incidentally, I think 10 million is minimum needed to start rebuilding and gfh wonth have that anyway

Common knowledge that there was an American there yes, but we all thought it was bullshit no?

Shocked that he's come out now, but I'd prefer him over GFH

Apparently flew into London yesterday to sort out a deal?

    Interesting and strange

There is alsorts going on behind the scenes the "Exclusivity period" ends on Wednesday so I believe, if the GFH bid has not gone through by then, Bates will accept Preston Haskell's bid and the merry go round starts again, all the time Bates is dragging the club down and taking money from our pockets.

Kissa, I'm beginning to think that GFH have been deliberately dragging their heels for some reason or other. I really can't believe that it would take another 6 months for DD. Shouldn't have taken 6 months in the first place. I'm starting to root for this new guy already & I don't know anything about him!

Due diligence didn't take six months it was done long ago, other factors have slowed TOMA and very few are privy as to why. The fact that GFHC are still here after all this time tells me they want to t/o the club. I for one will not be rooting for a mate of Bates who lives on he same island as Outro Bates company, that stinks from the off.

And Kissa is right Castles is a prick, a **** stirring prick.
