TOPICAL FLASHBACK #QPR's Tony Fernandes leads the way with Twitter debate on Neil Warnock sacking http://gu.com/p/34hjn/tw via @guardian
"Long long day. You live or die by your decisions. Neil warnock is a legend for what he's done at QPR. I thank him. We move on. You never know if a decision is right or wrong. Only time will tell. But decisions have to be made for all. Onwards and upwards." =======================================
He made the right decision to sack warnock. Made the right decision to hire MH, thought he was the best manager available to us at the time but he's made the wrong decision to keep him. We were calling it a month ago, he made a bad decision and should be the first to admit it.
I am certain that Fernandes is already thinking about what is the best decision for the club. He will be considering his options again and again and it will be keeping him awake at night. The man is not stupid, else he would not be heading up the businesses that he does and would not have amassed the fortune that he has. That is not to say that he is infallible. One thing that I have learned in my professional career is this: there has not been a solitary occasion where I believe that I've sacked somebody too soon.
Thing is yes, he's built businesses from the ground up and over a period of time but when would he have had to make one solitary decision that had such major financial implications? Football isn't like running an airline or music business. So I'm not all that confident he's in a position to make a right decision.
Good post (again) Uber. I think Tony will have to get rid before much longer though mate. We are getting cut adrift. There's no guarantee that a new man will make any difference, but he can't just fiddle while QPR burn imo.
Disagree, it right right to sack Warnock, it was wrong to hire Hughes and I said that from the start. Just like Hughes was wrong not to buy CBs, wrong to get rid of HH, wrong to get Green, wrong to include Ephraim in the squad ahead of DJ, wrong to buy all the 30+yo mercenaries and wrong to only have 3 old forwards. None of that was hindsight, I said it all at the time.
I'm no expert, Twelfth, but I did once spend a good number of years in a senior managerial position within the aerospace sector. The figures are astronomical. Does anyone have an idea of the investment required just to open one new airline route? A quick bit of Googling tells me that an Airbus 380 (for example) has a unit cost of more than £250 million. So I'm pretty sure Our Tone is comfortable with making solitary decisions with major financial implications. I suspect the solitary decision to acquire Queens Park Rangers Football Club is another reasonable example he might proffer.
I actually think Hughes was about as good as we could get at the time. However, the mistake for me is Tony not getting rid....now!
It's a shame though, really....... I bet that he wishes he could just leave the club or, that somebody else could make the decision for him (without reminding him how much it could cost him!) But seriously - does TF not realize that we're in serious trouble now, with a very high possibility of going down. And, at the same time, IF we were to go down, there is no guarantee we'd be right back up and that The Championship is a very tough division? I hope that weighs enough to make a faster, smarter decision.
I guess I was pretty indifferent to his appointment; neither enthused nor opposed. He was a 'name', was well-connected and had sufficient experience of managing teams at this level. The run-in from January to the end of last season was the usual Rangers rollercoaster, with pulse-quickening home performances offset by miserable awaydays. That he succeeded in keeping the Rs up earned him the right to rebuild and have our support this season. I was not displeased with his acquisitions, but shared the general 'oh no, not another midfielder' sentiment that was expressed by this board. In particular, it was disappointing not to have signed somebody of the calibre of Dawson at the back, or a better physical presence up front. The thing is, he appears to have singularly failed to both demonstrate tactical nous and adequately motivate his players. For me, relegation seems inescapable with him at the helm. After nearly 3 months of the season, one might imagine that he's tried every trick at his disposal. Clearly, nothing has worked. On that basis, we need new thinking and have to give a new manager sufficient time to work with and assess the squad ahead of the inevitable further newcomers in January. P.S. Am I the only one that's sick of seeing Aguerro's last-minute winner against the Rs in May? Sure, we stayed up and it shouldn't matter now. But I would much rather not have to see it at the start of every MOTD and 'every goal counts' Sky ad. But for a few moments lack of concentration, we might be seeing Mackie's header every week. Now that would have been something.
Same for me..........also, IF we were to get 'Arry.....what price us getting Defoe and Dawson in Jan?
And there was me thinking it was just me Uber. I chuffing hate it. It still grips my **** to this day that all the glory was bestowed upon them for this moment. I really wished we could have pissed all over their celebratory mercenary moment. But anyway, back to Hughes. I think you have assesed pretty well with where we are at present with Hughes. I'm sure Fernandes will have balanced things up, all considered. He has the balls and the nous to make tough decisions and I wouldn't be surprised if he is gone before Saturday. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if it's reported first on Sky Sports tomorrow. He will of already by now addressed the situation and issued ultimatums or whatever and will have decided that MH is not the best way forward. The pay-off is nothing compared to the revenue of remaining in the prem.
