Fining people for not wearing a poppy?

Firstly, I fundamentally disagree with not allowing people to have their own personal opinions. However, even aside from that point, forcing people to wear poppies completely undermines the whole concept. We already are at a point where it is more about "not not wearing a poppy" than it is about wearing the poppy - because of the grief you will get from not wearing one. Wearing a poppy should be an act of support, not something you do to avoid criticism.

Small minded is forcing people to have the same beliefs as you.

To be honest I stick money in the tins but don't take a poppy , reason being it leaves them that poppy to sell to someone else and make an extra couple of quid ... Also I would just lose said poppy anyway ..

If he didn't want to wear it because of his beliefs, fair play. The poppy might not represent the same thing to us as it does to him.

I'm more offended by the fact people read the Daily Mail.

If he doesn't want to be bullied into wearing and supporting something he doesn't believe in, good for him.

Absolutely 100% agree. The whole symbolism of the poppy is FREEDOM. I can never agree with the stance of not wearing, I have bought a poppy every year of my life however he has the right to make his own choice. It was the same with the olympics when that **** Piers Morgan went mental every time a medal winner didnt sing the national anthem.

If he's that principled he should **** of and earn his living in another country.

This is OUR home. People from other places are welcome so long as they abide by our rules and traditions.

I totally agree with all of that. All I'd add is that Morgan shouldn't be in a position where we can hear his opinion after mocking up those photos.

He was born in the UK, so he's not from some other place. Should everyone who disagrees with the government or the conduct of their forces just **** off to another country to earn their living?

The funds from the campaign are used to support the families of all troops not just those from the World Wars. Did anyone bother reading as far as the bit about the Bloody Sunday massacre? Think I might have wanted to not support the families of those involved as well.

I think with all of the money he earns, he should at least wear a poppy. I have always worn a poppy, every year - just out of respect!

I agree with that, however maybe he should read into what the actual meaning of wearing a poppy is, as i guarantee he would wear it if he knew the really meaning behind, as would 99% of people who don't wear it.

Funny thing that so many people who espouse patriotic sentiment know the least about the underlying principles of our country. That's why Samuel Johnson referred to [false] patriotism as "the last refuge of the scoundrel".
