The EU is a political entity and, as it employs bureacrats and politicians, cannot be without controversy. It may have resulted in peace over much but not all of Europe, but think the Second World War had more to do with that. It doesn't equate with peace in everyones mind. No problem with declaring a Peace Day (especially if we get a bank holiday) and every team wears a dove motif.

The EU is actually an exclusive club.

It would keep Di Canio away that's for sure.

Noble sentiments Fran but do you think that the powers that be would give us an extra Bank Holiday? I'm all for one and would favour the last Monday of October as we go from late August to Christmas, which is quite a long time indeed. Many people seem to take a week's break then, partially out of necessity due to half-term but would one extra bank holiday make such as difference to productivity. People might be more productive having had the extra day away from the "coalface" or "office."

Europe 'is entering a post-historical paradise of peace and relative prosperity, the realization of Kant's Perpetual Peace.' (Kagen, 2002: 1)

'The strength of the EU.... is broad and deep: once sucked into it's sphere of influence, countries are changed forever' (Leonard, 2005: 5)

We should send a more important message, something like 'save the Panda' instead, that would work.

Have to say that I would be required to work on any bank holiday, but, as I am on an old contract, I get another day off instead. New employees are on contracts where they get nothing for working bank holidays. An extra one would just piss them off more. For the first time, we have to work Boxing Day so Christmas consists of one day (and no, I don't work in an essential job).

They seem quite vitriolic! We are called Saints so what about an alliance with St Pauli!! Just looked at the profile of their fans and I like it!!

The issue of politics within football has been mentioned in the past. Back in the 80s some clubs were infested with far-right groups. As far as I remember, Saints were not one of them. Others had a left-wing slant! One day I was at Chesterfield and the chant went up for Tony Benn, long before he became an MP for that town. Guess who they were playing????

These boards are shrinking violets compared and we think that GMI is bad ::D I suggest they nip over there .

The politics of football clubs is something I dont much fancy, the small clubs like Chesterfield chants go back to the miners strike, Barnsley are the most militant I believe.

You know the expression that to know a man you need to walk a mile in his shoes. Feel that way about Holloway. An article in The Express reveals that he has a wife who is in remission from cancer and three daughters who are deaf. One is expecting his first grandchild soon and he wants to be nearer to his family. Good luck to him...some things are more important than football.

I think all the different causes suggested in this thread illustrate how difficult it would be to get a consensus agreement on which cause to feature.

James McLean is well within his right not to wear a poppy though. People who enforce poppy-wearing seem to have forgotten those soldiers died for our freedom.

The only reason some of our supporters dislike him is because of what he has said previously about us. I would venture to suggest that all of us at some time in the heat of passion, especially after a defeat have said something which we later regretted.

    Off topic rant:

Have two accumulators that are one game away from coming in, both relying on PSG to win. Just read that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is suspended.

AAAAAGGGGGHHHH. (This has no relevance to anything, I'm just venting.)

Dan Seabourne played 90 minutes for Charlton today, they kept a clean sheet and beat Bristol City 2 0.

Sometimes I don't understand Roy. Must just be because Drogba is trying to get Zaha to play for Ivory Coast.

This is a squad of several players who are eligible for other nations, so we're getting them signed up.

    Shame Fabio missed Victor Moses!
