With the way Wes has been playing of late, making himself un-dropable, can we see us starting with 2 'proper' strikers, home or away, any time soon? I can't see us playing the diamond much under Mr. H. Can we incorporate a 4-4-2, and should we? Could Benno and Pilks bring more to the party that way - as they perhaps did last season. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I know.. Just wonder what you fellas think.. Thoughts?
Pilkington and Bennett bring plenty as it is, the change in formation wouldn't affect their crossing it would just affect who's in the middle to shoot. It would be good to see more in the middle as we know we can score headers, as shown by last season, but as you say you can't really drop Hoolahan at the moment and it would be hard to change the formation to have Hoolahan where he is while having two strikers and the wingers providing the crosses.
I'm sure some fans, more technically minded than I, can think of a suitable way of playing. I'd like to see Jackson start more games to utilise his pace, particularly away from home. But can't see how.
The trouble with having 2 strikers is that all the members of the midfield would have to defend. As much as I love him, Hoolahan doesn't really bring this to his game so I think it is a straight choice between sticking with what we've got or dropping Hoolahan. I'd rather have him in the side than Morison or Jackson at the moment.
We need the solidity of the current formation. We just need to encourage Pilks and Snoddy/Bennett to get into the box more often and fill the second striker slot. Pilks to score today would help his confidence.
I remember people got a tad upset on here when some of us tried to debate bringing in another striker during the summer. The current formation works but we cannot rely purely on Holt, unfortunately it costs some serious change to buy in a decent forward and to be honest with you I don't really want us to buy a Championship Chugger, lets hope Mr Chester works some of his magic
One issue is that there is a need for more creativity from the two centre mid, meaning wes doesn't have to come so deep and can be a better support for Holt or another striker. I'd like to see howson or Fox beside tetty
Unfotunately, we have only one striker who can play up front on his own. Neither of the other two can retain the ball, Jackson isn't strong enough and Morison isn't technically good enough. Holt is both strong and technically far better than he gets credit for. I'd like us to sell Morison and get another striker like Holt and a striker who is better at the technical side.
Trouble is, we probably do need two up front but we have picked up points playing 5 in the middle. Too many times yesterday, Holt was the man crossing the ball in or not in the box during attacks because of where he had to go to get it. Mind you yesterday it was because Whittaker and Garrido just thumped it there. Let us hope Kane is on the way to a quick recovery. If we bought another striker, are we advocating dropping Holt?
No, I think there as a lot of pressure on him, he handles everything well but he is 31 and he can't do everything himself, also I know he doesn't need to worry about competition at the moment. We do need someone who can fit the current system and offer a lot more technically then our current backup strikers. It will be an expensive player and I really believe we need one of those players who wins games for you.
I think CH is working hard on turning us in to a team which plays in the manner of an established premiership outfit. Last season we went all out to score goals at the expense of defending; this isn't a long-term sustainable strategy. Hughton is, in a literal sense, building from the back. It seems that he's getting there now, so expect work to start on getting the midfield creating chances. It's an exciting time to be an NCFC fan, and I think we will continue growing and improving over the course of the season. By the end of the season I'd expect us to be looking professional and efficient side, ruthless in front of goal and secure at the back. Only one niggling doubt - are the players we have good enough to make it work...?
Someone with Jackson's pace but a bit sronger and then we could drop Holt, if we continue to play the current system.
Yes, someone who can move would be great but we need a sharper finisher it's all down to what can we afford or what can Scouts find? We were apparently linked to a Slovenian forward called Robert Beric in the week. CanariesSoccer I think we have strength in depth in all the departments with the exception of our forwards.
