They all seem to be playing each other every week PM whilst we travel to Everton or somewhere. Sunderland still have a postponed game against Reading to play, I'm sure we are supposed to play these crap teams too.

Pretty amazing news about Spanish team Real Oviedo. They're historically one of the country's biggest clubs, but they've been struggling financially for years and have now announced that they need to raise 2 million Euros within a fortnight to survive. Real Madrid have bought 100,000 Euros worth of shares and donated a shirt signed by Casillas for them to auction off, and former Oviedo stars Michu, Santi Cazorla and Juan Mata have all bought an undisclosed amount as well.

It has been noted that eleswhere that James McClean declined to wear a shirt with a poppy on it!! I am not going to discuss the issuses involved and if anyone wants to read more go to the Sunderland board.

Since we at Southampton are a forward thinking club, how about the club design a shirt commemorating 40 years of our membership of the EU. The logo can be placed where yesterday's poppy logo was positioned!

This would be a celebration of the peace that has gradually spread throughtout the continent since the years after the 2nd WW to the present day, the removal of dictatorships to parliamentary democracies, the free movement of people throughout the member countries and the improvement in living standards across the member states.

It would also recognise the contribution of players from across Europe to our game in the UK.

Anyone can buy a share, and if you do then as a bonus you get free entry to their game against Real Madrid C.

would hate to see anything political tied to an independent football club, that is a terrible idea with all due respect.

Personally I'm okay with the club having political ties as long as it's something I agree with, and I do like the EU. St Pauli have political affiliations and they're awesome.

Is it any more or less political than "Kick out racism" I am viewing it as a celebration of peace and unity amongst the peoples of Europe. Reminders of wars and the role of armies in them can be divisive, this isn't! Not even James McClean could reject wearing this on his shirt!!

Wow. You would never ever get that happening in this country (what Madrid did, not what happened to Real Oviedo as that happens all the time here).

racism is a problem in football though, the shirt is meant to represent southampton football club not some peoples political aspirations. Politics has absolutely no place in football especially on the shirt.

The only thing more offensive than the club printing political messages on the shirt would be if they pissed on it, burnt it and then put it on the season ticket holders dvd. It would be a complete corruption of the clubs independence.

Wow, we've finally found the idiot who was on the Noble panel and voted the EU for the Peace prize this year.

I'm sure you are aware that EU countries are a bigger exporter of weapons than even the US, China & Russia?

There is only one thing I want to see on Saints home shirts... proper red & white stripes.

If we had worn red & white stripes yesterday (proper ones) we would have won and thats a fact.

St Pauli's fans started that not the club to be fair, their fans are far more alternative than we are as well, I think Southampton fans may be a bit too conservative for that, also I would like no political affiliation at all, I am a left but see no place in it or merit at all.
Also that Union did an awful of lot damage to our relations with New Zealand and Australia.

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. That would just be the club saying, this is what we believe in, if you don't we're not the club for you. It's a football club not a political party, it's open to anyone and everyone, the more fans we have the better.

In fact from reading these threads to other clubs on these boards the posters on here are conservative, just reading the Sunderland forum.

I thought the EU was inclusive to everyone whatever their colour, creed or persuasion, open to all political parties of whatever belief. It is more apolitical as it doesn't favour left or right. It is the press in this country that have made it such a big political issue and they are largely responsible engendering a mindset within the UK that is at best rather cool towards the EU!
