There's enough money there in concrete sales to keep you sweet Red! If you own up to your true blue colours they might even award you the contract!!
it looks a spectacular artists impression, but let me warn you , the cost of building that in one go would be enormous. our board took the decision to build our new stadium in stages. start with 4 stands and fill in the corners as money is available. after 3 years money is still not available, as our directors have had to balance the cash between promo and corners. this season it will be staying up or corners. but your new stand when built will be a moneyspinner with extra facilities for even more fans. will you go for conference facilities. all in all a great project and money earner but i caution building it in stages.
I know this project has gone up on the major contracts to chase board. The hard thing for me is going to be reading the specification and approving all the mixes. Going to be a grumpy bastard that day in work and a lot of people there are getting excited at the possibility of me having to do this. On a more serious note I will be jealous that you have a new ground anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves but for the City of Bristol (South Gloucestershire or Bristol) is going to be good. And you getting yours will only help us to get ours I hope
Thank you ROD, I have to say this is 1 of the best and honest comments from a city fan that I have already in a long time How will you be involved in the stadium ROD?
I'm concrete technical from one of the major suppliers in this country (didn't say biggest incase there are any of my competitors on here, don't want them crying) I look at the specifications and approve what we can or can't supply. Along with if we can't I work out an alternative trial and put it forward. I look after 40 RMX plants looking at the batch configurations and strength of the concrete cubes to see if we need to add or take out cement. Very quick overview of my job, no I don't earn a fortune but love what I do. My old man was in the same business but he moved-into sales so I just followed him, sales for me one day
No it depends on price, but I will still be given the specification to vet as all the others do. Believe it or not football stadiums are built using precast concrete not a great deal of ready mixed which is mainly used for footings and surrounding areas. We supply aggregate and Asphalt as well so becomes a big contract for that side of the business. At the moment we are going through a merger and to please the competitions report we have to between us sell off 170 concrete plants which will become a totally separate new company and player in the market. At the moment the company I work for have 3 plants in Bristol retaining 2 and 1 will go to the new business. We have to either apply for the new business or take our chances with the merged company. I will give you all a quick lesson in concrete. It's grey it's wet and it goes hard!
sounds like someone i know has anything been passed to you already to see? i presume you can give info out on things but whatever you can get away with would be appreciated
Nothing yet, same as the city ground, you dont get anything until planning approved once they get the go ahead on the Mem site they go to tender for the construction then they send info to us. No point doing anything until all things approved
would have thought they would get it all done ready if sainsburys get the go ahead. how long does your bit usually take? (yes im still talking about your job not something else )
It can be speced and priced within days, The designs will be sat in some architects office waiting to be sent out.
I'm glad I made the little joke Red. You and CJ have made some interesting additional comments to the thread. If you get the work let us know and we might be persuaded to club together and buy you a season ticket as our lucky red mascot. Good Luck with the contract. N.B. I did say might!
