Yeah, this ^. We moved Tom Ince on-- who was a great talent -- ostensibly because of his huge ego/attitude problem. BR has shown previously, and rather publicly, that he can deal with Raheem. I don't necessarily believe these rumours, but I think Sterling does need to secure a new contract and so the rumours are probably just a side phenomena of contract negotiations. £50k does seem steep at the moment, but if he continues progressing at the rate he is at the moment it'll be hard to deny him such wages in the future. We really need to implement incentive-based wage schemes to help progress the team, especially the young and talented (and greedy) players. Perhaps bonuses based on goals/assists/clean sheets?
I think bonuses should be team based. Its a team game and individual bonuses make players greedy. For example, giving a player a goal bonus will mean that he is unlikely to pass when 2 on 1 with the keeper. Sure, you could give them an equal assist bonus but then if there are three or four in the bix there is a chance that assisting pass could be passed on. If you give all players a team bonus for each goal, clean sheet etc then they work together to achieve the goal. Aka...team game!
Ince moved himself on, as he wanted to play. He rejected Liverpools contract offer, spinning it as you moving him on due to a poor attitude is a total fabrication.
We could have offered him more. We didn't. You can spin it any way you like, but insinuating you know the ins and outs of the negotiating is dissembling of the highest order.
Don't worry about him CCC he's a bitter thus he knows more about us than we do (because there's nothing interesting about the blueshite you see). For your info Toby we offered him the going rate for a youth team player because he wasn't performing particularly well. If we'd offered him a fortune would that have encouraged him to develop further or being the big headed tit that he is would his attitude have just deteriorated even further do you think? You really don't think things through do you.
You assume it was about money. Ince's old man wanted the lad to play, Dalglish was signing experienced internationals & it was obvious the lad wasn't going to get much game time, as he only played one game. For you to state that it was an attitude problem that was behind his departure is total bollocks, Dalglish obviously didn't particularly rate the lad, that's what was behind him moving on.
No lad. Again you're pretending to know more than you actually do. How many times did you watch him play for our youth/reserve teams just out of interest?
I never saw him play for your stiffs lad, what's that got to do with anything? Dalglish didn't fancy the kid, maybe at the time he was right not to, he might have been under performing in training etc, He may well have also been asking for a higher wage than you thought he was due. I've no idea. I took issue with the other fella saying that you binned him off due to his poor attitude, which is not true is it?
I didn't say it was just down to money, but that money was a factor. To say money had nothing to do with it would make you a naif. And Tom didn't want to play? Who cares what his Old Man thought? He got the same number of games as all younger players trying to break into the first team. He got games as he merited them. Why should he be a special exception? I didn't state anything of the kind. Again, his departure was no doubt due to multiple factors, which we (all of us!) can only speculate upon. You've said previously, TB, that you are not a WUM, but like to debate football. To say that something is 'utter bollocks' just because it deviates from the very limited sphere of your imagination is not very good debating. Neither is it very good WUMing. You need to address your attitude in your posts or soon you will be 'debating' yourself, as no one will respond to your posts. Try a bit of humility or you'll end up in forum limbo.
There is a separate thread about ince guys. Sterling, actually a 17 year old should never be asking for so much and never get so much money. A 20k and rising every year deal would be far more suitable, surely? Brendan has given him the chance and plays regularly now, I'm sure a deal will be sorted out.
It was well known his attitude was poor. Not only was it well known though lad it was blatantly obvious if you WATCHED him play (hence why I asked). What you maybe haven't got your head around is how "negotiations" work. We offered him a contract which he thought wasn't enough. We then declined to offer him more (or guarantee him the first team games he thought he deserved but blatantly didn't). So you think we were shocked when he upped and left? Obviously not when he's just declined a contract. So is that him binning us or the other way round? Guess it depends which side of the fence you're on but from our side I see it as "you want more than you deserve and we aint paying it". Or "you want a first team place guaranteed and you haven't earned it". Either way...we've offered you a decent contract for a youth player and if its not good enough for you...there's the door lad.
Instead of writing all that would it not have been easier to say you parted company by mutual consent?
I guess if I was incapable of writing more than a sentence at a time I could have And instead of writing this you could have just kept your hand in your pocket and played with your bollocks.
Why is everyone comparing him to Cole and Downing and Carra? The solution isn't to get Raheem on par with them but to get them on par with Raheem! Cole and Downing shouldn't be on astronomical sums and everyone at the club knows that. I strongly doubt any players bar Ronaldo/Messi will get those numbers from our club soon. Not many clubs in the world pay more than we do so there are limited opportunities for him to move overseas. Pogba as you all mentioned is still only on 20k per week at one of the European giants. That's more than enough for a 17 year old. As for all this bollox about him having the club at his mercy, what are you basing that off of? 18 months is a long ways yet and he doesn't strike me as greedy. The only source I have found for this is the Daily Mail and they're almost as reliable as the Sun. It's a bunch of **** written to unsettle our player. Ince can't be compared as he only played one match and didn't look that talented for a while (he started off well but stalled in development). He was far from the first team and left, like Toni Silva or Ayala or any of them. Raheem may play an important role for now but that's only because we have no one better. He has played well but there are signs that he's still young and experienced. He would not play for Chelsea or City or even United yet on a first team basis. Liverpool is currently his peak. When he's 24 he'll be worth 50k, there's no doubt about that. But now is too early.
