shows what you know about football.. f**k all then.. how anyone can knock McKenna is beyond me.. that said if we wish to move onwards and upwards we need to get quality, McKenna may not be PL standard but he's done well for City.
Totally agree with you tigercity. Only thing going a bit against him now is he's 35 so nothing wrong with looking to the future but overall I think he's been a good signing for City.
Agree with both of you. Think Mckenna does a good job for City. I like how he does the dirty work but he doesn't get the recognition. Old bartender at Blue Bell in Old Town was a Forest fan and had a shirt with his name on it behind the bar.
In order to be a good footballer, you have to have confidence. He has none of that! He is scared to shoot and cross. He has no technical skill whatsoever!
McKenna was probably one of our outstanding players last Season, and in regards to shooting, I've seen him take a pop from range quite a lot. And he's never on the wings to put a cross in...
Thank god someone else thinks this! He's good at what he does with tidying things up in midfield and was one of our top performers last season. He is only decent standard for the Championship and I'm not saying he should be the first name on the team sheet every week, but he's somebody reliable that we can call upon when necessary.
Sounds like your happy with mediocrity then. Bruce isnt and neither am i. Evans, Mckenna and Oli arent going to get us there. Meyler just might.
Chazz, I accept he isn't a quality player and indeed the likes of Quinn and Meyler are better players, it would be daft to say otherwise. All I'm saying is is that when called upon Mckenna can do a job for us. We should play our strongest team that can get us results on the day (so no, i'm not happy with mediocrity at all) but it's good to have options available in the background when you need them.
I see your point, we needed Mckenna on earlier on Tuesday. But same situation today and its going to be Meyler coming on. Thats my point. Either Mckenna or Oli wont be on the bench today. Things are moving on. Steve Bruce has been nothing short of brilliant since he came here. He identified straightaway we were weak in CM and has been waiting for Meyler since day one.
Yeah I understand your point I agree our midfield has needed someone like Meyler adding to it, as much as I like what Mckenna does he lacks that touch of class that the top midfielders in this league have. To challenge for the top 6 this is the kind of thing our midfield needs and I'm excited to see what Meyler can do for us, hopefully he can make the same impact as Elmo.
I think to call McKenna mediocre is harsh, I feel he's done a good job for us. I agree that Steve Bruce has made a lot of excellent decisions since he came to City which has included sometimes picking McKenna to either start or be on the subs bench. He's been a good Championship midfielder who is now 35 and coming to the end of his career. Bringing Meyler in looks like another excellent decision.
McKenna's done a good job whilst he's been here. I accept things are moving on, and that's a good thing, but I don't see why anyone has to trash him. It lacks class, on a grand scale.
Slating Paul Mckenna shows a lack of understanding of the game. All good sides have a defensive midfielder, someone to do the donkey work and they rarely get the plaudits they deserve. It's annoying when i think of the opinions most Hull fans had of Ian Ashbee, while he played for us,only to aknowledge he is a legend now. I don't know Meyler, but i have a feeling he'll be a star for us,because SB has been chasing him from the start. But i also don't think he would have even been interested, had Mckenna been 25 rather than 35.
McKenna is a squad player but an important one at that. His experience will be important even if his minutes on the pitch may be limited
