In which case Rodgers should drag him to the nearest sweatshop (McDonalds will do) and show him what most teenagers have to do to earn money. Then he should stick his agents head in the chip fat <ok> £50 grand A WEEK....my arse.

    In an ideal world...

In reality Rodgers hands are tied. Sterling hold all the aces in this game of poker. It is the law of supply and demand. Age does not come into it. If there are clubs wiling to pay him that wage, then he'll be off free when his contract expires. Look at what happened with Wenger. and his best players leaving <ok>

And yet Wenger keeps unearthing little gems all the time. If that's the way it has to be then Rodgers has to prove he can do likewise. If Sterling wants stupid money then we'll have to let him get it elsewhere. I love the kid and he's got bags of potential but he doesn't hold ALL the cards. Which other big club can guarantee him games? Which other big clubs will pay him £50000 a week? More importantly is there one club that will give him both?

If he finds one and wants out we say goodbye and good luck. If not we end up with Suso, Shelvey, Wisdom all either on £50000 a week or banging on the gaffers door asking why they aren't on that.

He could get it elsewhere so I think we should be paying it. It'll be worth it if he puts pen to paper for 5 years. At £50k he'd probably still be amongst the lowest paid first team players at the club.

Can the club afford to have to keep unearthing gems, only to have to let them go?

The salary structure at the club is all lopsided. It lloks that those players who sit on the bench and contribute least are the high earners (Carragher, Cole, Downing, Henderson etc) and those who are more valuable (Sterling and others) are paid much less. That legacy will take years to sort itself.

Also "stupid" money... 50k for a key first team player in a premiership club is not stupid money. Never mind the top 4, the likes of Villa, Everton, Newcastle will pay this and more for a top player.

  8. But will it? Carragher is a little different because he is a club legend and is much more than just a player.

However, do we expect Downing, Cole and even Henderson (if he's on massive wages?) to be here next season? Stewart and Joe have been very poor and both deserve to be moved on, the only problem comes in finding a buyer. Maybe the club will have to take a hit with one or both.

Rodgers as already tried to shift Henderson so I reckon he will go too, especially with him being a bit part player now. Do I want to see him go? No, but he will <ok>

What is this world coming too?

How much does a 17 year old need?! Can't we just buy him a new xbox game a week, and a £2 budget a day at his nearest corner shop?

  10. Lets turn the table. If Sterling is asking for £50k per week (ignore the lack of evidence or facts) and the club don't oblige meaning Raheem leaves, how will the fans react to the club?

We'll see an influx of abuse aimed at Rodgers and FSG for lacking ambition etc.

PS...MFG is probably sat hoping here <whistle>

Why? this is crazy and part of your problem. Just because he is a "legend" does not mean he should earn 100k a week.

These huge salaries for the bench warmers not only affect the club finances, they also affect team spirit. Why would the likes of Sterling, Shelvey, etc work very hard when they see Downing Cole and Carragher earning 3 or 4 times more than they do. Just does not make sense...<ok>

    £2000 + Common Sense = Condoms

Well he had the two grand....

It's not just the babies, how about getting AIDS. Mine and the generation after me, had it beaten into them, that you didn't even touch someone else without a Durex on your finger, let alone dip your wick without a bike inner-tube on your knob. But it looks like the kids of today are back to the old ways of just dipping it where they like and not bothering about any consequences...

But saying that, we are slowly dying as a culture, as we are not making anywhere enough babies. All the smart rich westerners are all too concerned with their careers, cars, houses and holidays to have kids, and may, if you're lucky, pop one or two out. But it's rare to see families of 3 and over. So we need these dumb kids to get the population figures back up!

  13. I didn't mean it was different in that we should be happy for it to be happening. I meant its different because the youngsters won't expect to be paid anywhere near the amount a club legend gets. But I did add that we get more than just a player too.

I agree with the rest <ok>

    Hello Mr. Accountant.

There have been times over the last 10 years when, especially alongside Sami Hyppia when he was worth a lot more than £100K and has not been earning it, so out of all our squad, he is the one I have no problem paying that amount to. He will be gone next year, we risk paying Cole for another year after than, and still never getting anything to justify it. Carra is still taking Coates to school, so he's doing two part time jobs for us, and has proven his loyalty. You just can't snapshot the accounts and get a full picture of a business, no matter how much accountants try.

Pogba's a bit different tho - he's always had an attitude problem. Apparently he's now suspended by Juve for repeatedly being later for training, great way to cement his break into the first team!

That said, I think Pogba is only getting 15-20k a week, so Sterling really will be testing Liverpool's commitment to a decent wage structure if he gets £50k a week. How long before Shelvey, Kelly, Wisdom, Suso and Pacheco start thinking "we'll have a bit of that too, thanks"...

Its not that much different, Sterling has a bit of an attitude problem too, not to the same degree as Pogba but he has one. It was only last season Raheem was saying he wanted more time in first team otherwise he would have to think about moving on <doh>

I agree about other youngsters too. However, Wisdom, Shelvey and Suso have just agreed new deals, maybe this is what Sterling is looking at? I don't believe the rumoured £50k per week figure, it was the Daily Fail afterall!
