How do you know? he has played 9 games. He looks something special but many other players have too, once he has played a full season and other players have had time to work him out we will see if he can keep progressing. With 18 months left on a contract there is plenty of time to assess his future.
As i said earlier hes got us by the bollocks somewhat, if we don't give him a deal hes happy with and if he continues to improve he'll be off in 18 months on a free and someone else will get a decent player and pay him his 50k.
He can`t start looking until his final 12 months so you have until the end of the season to see if he can keep it up.
Not just talking about Liverpool, how many times have you heard how good a kid was, even seen him play a few times only for him to fade away.
Agents mean nothing at this stage, if you decide he is worth the money in 6 month`s you offer it to him and hope he accepts. If it were Suares he could probably hold you to ransom like Roney did with us. We had Morrison (by all accounts the best English player of his generation) try the same thing with us, we sold him to Westham, he Now sits on Birmingham`s bench every week. These kids are made by the clubs they play for and should learn that.
Massive difference between Sterling & McClean. Sterling has better technique, game intelligence and overall quality. And he's 6 years younger. Sterling has been coached to a higher standard than McClean, and it shows. Its why quality coaching is so important to develop technical, intelligent footballers.
Look at Pogba mate, agents are snakes always trying to get players to move on as the agents will get a juicy signing on fee for helping the new club help get his player in there. Pogba threw his toys out of the pram as he wasn't getting what he wanted because he knew there'd be plenty of clubs around europe willing to pay him decent wages and he ****ed off when he wasn't given the money he wanted.
Where is Raheem going to go? A 17 year old kid isn't very likely to move to Madrid where his career would be over or Barcelona where he'd essentially have to end his career. Switching to another English club? I hardly think any agent would recommend that, there are only a handful of clubs in England that are better for his trophy winning career than Liverpool (currently). Back to QPR? Doubt it. United? He's not that stupid. Chelsea? City? He wouldn't play. I think it's a bollox story without sources by the Daily Fail. As for what he's worth? It's stupid to compare him to Downing and Cole. They're on 60/90k pw but that's not what they're worth. They're both worth maybe 15, 20 per week. Considering that they have had a career so far (somewhere i suppose) and he's in no position to guarantee how good he'll be in a year, that's about what he should be on. I know he's excellent but for a 17 year old, he shouldn't get greedy.
Tom Ince is rumoured to be on Man Utd's shopping list, we wouldn't directly have let go there but he might end up there, and hes an example of letting them go a season or two to early.
Unless I'm missing something you're a terrible WUM That's a fair point, I see what you say and raise you Liam Miller. I'm not even trying to say he's going to turn out bad because no one knows. From the sounds of it, it'll be his personal life what ruins him more than anything.
Sterling shows lots of promise. He's far from being the finished article and he has a high risk tag attached to him - as do all young 'flyers'. He probably isn't even the best prospect that we have - perhaps Suso is more important to our long term prospects. So any deal that is done has to be surrounded by caveats ie you con have £x provided that in the next 18 months you achieve Y
Looking at it dispassionately it seems tHat he and his agents have the club by the short and curlies. He is a key player of the first team and he knows that. The team is not the same without him I.e it does not pose any attacking threat when he is not playing. He also knows that other clubs will be happy to buy him at 10 20 or even 30 million and pay him 50 or 60k a week. You either pay him or he is off. Do you cut off your nose to spite your face? The fundamental problem is that you have too many players who are on better terms than him but who are not even remotely as valuable. The clubs with the biggest player wage bills in 2011 were Chelsea and City (191m and 174m). Liverpool's was 4th and only 10% lower than United's ( 135 million compared to 150m) and higher than Arsenal's (124) Gerrard and Johnson are more than£100k a week. Not far behind are Carragher and Cole Downing on between 60 -80k. And these players hardly get a kick on match days. Until you get rid of the expensive dead wood this problem will crop again and again
Daily Fail = load of sweaty bollocks This time last year they had us selling Lucas for £3 mill. If they say he's "demanding" £50000 a week it will either be half that...or double that
Yep to be fair I think he deserves it. If you are doing the job of a senior first team player, then you should be paid like a senior first team player.. Important to keep him hungry though. So maybe 40k and 5k a goal lol
