It's high time we join together to ban the highly racist and offensive term "Bl*ck." It's a direct translation of the unacceptable "n*gro," which in turn has spawned other variants which have dehumanized Africans for centuries. This hateful and grossly inaccurate epithet (it is in fact a bald-faced lie; no human being is black) has been used for ages to vilify and dehumanize persons of African descent, and I will not stand for it one moment longer, as a human being and as an African American. (How am I African American? Because I have US citizenship and all my ancestor's families originated in Africa. How could anyone be more African American than that?)
I'm married to a Black girl,She say's she is black, and doesn't like being called coloured as many people over here say.she say's black isn't a colour,i'm black and proud of it
I would normally suggest that you contact Peter Herbert, as a matter of urgency. However, as you are actually black ( sorry!) I don't think you will fit in with his current agenda. Sorry for any inconvenience. Please try contacting the Society of Black Lawyers at some time in the future, when the issues of black people are more on the current agenda
I can't recall, what was Herbert's stance when Ice Cube toured here last year, given he used to be a member of a group named N*****s With Attitude? I presume he has problems with Aswad as well...
As per above, we both know that this charlatan couldn't give a toss about anything, or anybody, save whatever agenda he's currently working to.
Looks like Jewish Spurs fans are split on this issue http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20270298 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ttenham-Hotspur-fans-to-ditch-the-Y-word.html
If you do not wish to be called black then I will not do so, however us white folk take our guidance from black people here as to how they would wish to be described and in the UK it appears that it is black. Personally I prefer to describe people by their attitudes and actions rather than their race.
This from a member of a board that continually disparages all references of things they don't like by use of the self same argument I have raised. You really must try harder
HIAG you've definitely added an element of humour to this thread with your claim that you're a Lawyer. Coming out with bullshit like that makes me suspect that you've been at the wrong sort of bar though
Just when I thought this 15 year old twat couldn't make me cringe any more this^ gets posted. What the fkuc is a professional person anyway, you work at being a person? You're **** at your job so HIAG a lawyer Surely they don't call themselves "Professional Persons"
Couldn't agree more. I won't be leading the calls to have Black removed from the oxford. Who on earth above said Negro is a bad word? Its Spanish, ****** had only one use, now it has lost all meaning, unless slavery has not been abolished and black people don't use it every second of every day and sell their music to white kids who are not allowed to repeat the word, this is all entirely ridiculous. Meanwhile discrimination based on nationality seems to be OK, age, gender yet all of those seem to be far less important than skin colour. Its all bollox, If I say ****** it don't make me racist, insensitive yes. Someone can call me racist for saying it but it does not make it so and it also means they don't actually know what racism is. The sooner we all realise racism is not perpetuated via words but rather actions the better.
So where's the statement from the Metropolitan Police distancing themselves from this? Or... Where's the statement from the Metropolitan Police saying that, actually, they would punish any Spurs fans using the word "Yid" during last night's match? Two statements, neither of which exist. Meanwhile, in the Standard there's a take on this from James Lawton - it's a tiny column, hidden on page 64, equating Spurs fans with the military governor of Kiev who ordered the mass extermination of the city's Jewish population. What a colossal ****wit... And for those who missed it, these are all quotes taken from the terms of use of peterherbert.net... Using information on his website could result in a loss - pretty much confirming his reliability. Apart from being a patronising berk to people using his website, which must be a guarantee of extra clients, the fact is he's saying it's YOUR fault if your computer gets a virus from HIS website is actually a remarkably dubious stance. Just like the defamation suit the Tottenham Supporters Trust should slap him with for describing us as racist. Lastly, however, one titbit is on the Mail website that may have passed people by. At the following link - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ttenham-fans-racist-claims-Peter-Herbert.html - you can read this: Peter Herbert is a human rights barrister and chairman of the Society of Black Lawyers. He’s also the man who lodged a complaint with the Metropolitan Police over referee Mark Clattenburg’s alleged abuse of John Mikel Obi. He's an ambulance chaser that refuses to admit he's chasing an ice cream van.
I agree with hbic, hes an egotist on a mission. The barrister Peter Herbert sees himself as a civil rights campaigner in the tradition of Martin Luther King and he wants Britain’s black footballers to stand alongside him in the struggle. Go to his website (“D Peter Herbert OBE: Barrister at Law” and you will find “fan” photographs of him alongside the likes of Jesse Jackson and the Rev Al Sharpton. He once played Paul Robeson, the American actor and civil rights activist, in a theatre production that was favourably reviewed in The Guardian and is writing his own play about a civil rights case in Liverpool. Herbert has established a platform as chairman of the Society of Black Lawyers and has worked closely for years with the Black Police Association. Now he has turned his attentions to the beautiful game, wading into the latest football race row by calling on Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg to be suspended while he is investigated over alleged racist comments made to Chelsea’s Nigerian star John Obi Mikel. He has also ignited his own controversy by dubbing Tottenham Hotspur supporters “casual racists” for their embrace of the term Yid Army as a mechanism for combating anti-Semitic abuse from rival supporters. Now he wants footballers to create something similar to the Society of Black Lawyers – the Black Footballers Association, if you will. “We are trying to show them the potential of black self-organisation,” said Herbert. “There are 60 million people of colour in Europe and the best known and wealthiest of them are footballers. The potential for leadership and excellence and role models is stunning.” He admits this battle will not be easy, noting that it is “early days” for the project. Footballers “have not been empowered” through university educations to comprehend the role they can have in social change. “We are going to engage and hopefully persuade by using examples from other jurisdictions,” he said. If he is going to persuade football stars to join his cause, he needs to establish that black British footballers are treated differently from white ones. Which helps explain Herbert’s high profile this week, putting forward a radical 10-point plan for tackling racism in the game. Among the more radical proposals is giving referees the power to call off matches when they hear racist abuse from the crowd. Herbert, 55, has been compared to the campaigning black American lawyer Johnnie Cochran, who represented not just OJ Simpson and Michael Jackson but black sports stars including boxer Riddick Bowe and American footballer Jim Brown. The Newcastle-born barrister, who notes that baseball star Jackie Robinson was a big supporter of Dr King in the 1960s, is a close follower of the racial politics of American sport. He likes the “Rooney Rule”, named after Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney, who used affirmative action to give African-American coaches more opportunities in the National Football League. English football has only four black managers. Rooney is now US ambassador to Ireland and Herbert wants to visit him. He will hope for a warmer reception than he has received this week from British football. His Spurs campaign, particularly his threat of referring the matter to the Metropolitan Police, went down badly at White Hart Lane on Thursday night where the crowd delighted in chanting “Yid Army”. Supporter Tim Framp, of the We Are N17 campaign, said the “positive” use of the term was not deemed offensive by Tottenham’s sizeable Jewish following. “The only way to make it lose its sting is to reclaim it.” But battle-hardened Herbert, a veteran of 30 years of campaigning, says the non-Jewish majority at Spurs has no right to “reclaim” such a term of abuse and that a criminal offence is committed under section 5 of the Public Order Act if a single television viewer is offended. He might have to “have a word” with the local borough commander. Piara Powar, former head of Kick It Out – which works with the football authorities – and now executive director of Football Against Racism in Europe, said: “I think Peter Herbert and the Society of Black Lawyers are naive. They perhaps don’t know football.” No doubt Powar would argue the game has made vast progress in combating racism in the past 30 years. But some black players, including Rio Ferdinand, were critical of Kick It Out’s handling of the recent John Terry race case. Herbert – who today was off to see the multi-ethnic teenage side Leicester Nirvana FC, victims of alleged monkey chants from spectators during a recent under-15s game –sniffed an opportunity. Some accuse him of simply being opportunist and flash (witness him posing with a Mercedes registered P400 LAW). But he is not naive. Don’t be surprised to see him with a new “fan” picture, hanging out with Rio. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...opportunist-who-saw-an-open-goal-8301481.html
So Herbert's associated with Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan and he wants to tell us how to conduct ourselves with the Jewish community? Is he ****ing serious? Al Sharpton: "If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house". Jesse Jackson: "four out of five [of Nixon's top advisers] are German Jews and their priorities are on Europe and Asia", he's " "sick and tired of hearing about the Holocaust", "very few Jewish reporters that have the capacity to be objective about Arab affairs" and he labeled Jews "hymies" and New York "Hymietown". Farrakhan: Called Judaism a gutter religion, accused Jews of blocking the distribution of his literature, called Hitler a great man and is the member of a religion that believes that the white man is the evil creation of an insane scientist. Mr Herbert, **** off.
FIFPro, the worldwide body that represents footballers, have slammed Herbert's plans for a separate union for black players, as it would be discriminatory and divisive: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20276933 "We don't need to separate the players when the whole focus and goal of anti-racism is to campaign for unity." Racist scumbag.
