Because HIAG if you were a lawyer, you would know that in law, the excuse that something has 'been done for years' isn't a legitimate legal defence. 'But your Honour, I've been robbing banks for years, that makes it alright, surely ?' And as LDL has pointed out, it's highly unlikely that any court would defend somebody's right to chant a derogatory racist term, regardless of their intent behind it.
Also if you were a lawyer, surely you would have referred to yourself as being either a Solicitor, Barrister or licensed conveyancer ? As in the UK the term Lawyer is given to encompass these groups of practitioners. But as a 'lawyer' you'd already know this

Not all Lawyers practice Law in the UK they also develop law, lecture on law, and teach law, these could all be described in the UK as Lawyers.
