Even by the standards of the internet, you're dumb. Really, REALLY dumb. If there's a minute's silence, I observe it impeccably. But why have one for a bunch of Egyptians none of us knew, and, let's be honest, even cared about? This is a country nearly two-and-a-half-thousand miles away, and we're being asked to show our respects - when most of our fans probably couldn't even point it out on a map - just because we have Egyptian owners? We have a Slovenian captain, so why don't we have a minute's silence for every Slovenian who died this week? Or, out of respect for Nick Proschwitz, every German who's died this year? After all, he did win us 3 points against Ipswich.
I did, but wasn't entirely convinced it was our place to do it. It seemed like it was at the will of somebody else and that it was foisted on us somewhat. Did Fulham do it?. To say we should have done it because the Allams saved the club is a little naive. Anyway, each to their own.
Wow, I hope karma comes back and ****ing breaks your legs. They saved the Club that you support, and to say thank you we show respect for a tragedy that happened in their home Country. How else you would you say thank you, how about you go up to them personally, shake their hand, offer them out for a meal and express your gratefulness - should you possess any - because let's be honest, nobody's going to do that. Therefore we pay our respects in a different way. I had no relation in the Hillsborough Tragedy, but I still paid my respects to the fallen like someone really should.
We respected the silence because of the Allam's, not because of the event we were supposed to be respecting, there was something a bit odd about that. I was happy to do it, but it did seem rather odd.
That's exactly the point I'm getting across, it was a way of respecting the Allams, for me and those who sit with me, it was certainly a way of saying thank you to them as well. A way of repaying them almost.
Btw, you're my new hero, awesome responses on this from you. The problem is, keeping quiet for 1 or 2 mins is too hard for some of the whiners on here, so they see it as their right to complain about that.

I'm questioning, in retrospect, what exactly the relevancy of the minute's silence to our football club is/was. If you read all of the posts on this thread, you will see that I am not the only one doing so. The fact that the Allams are Egyptian doesn't really wash, and the fact they 'saved our club' doesn't make a blind bit of difference as far as I'm concerned. In all honesty, I feel the same way about Hillsborough. If we're playing Liverpool or Everton, then I'd fully understand having one. But a nationwide minute's silence in memory of the victims 23 years on? I'd observe it out of respect, but I wouldn't agree with having one at a Championship match involving Hull City.
You do it because it's what everybody does, you have the right to complain and question why it's done but it won't take you anywhere.

I observe all the minutes silence but it really is getting ridiculous now , people can remember things in their own way , it's different to impose it on others
Who were the two school girls from Soham we had one for the other year? It's really annoying when names go like this, but it was one of those stories that got blanket media coverage for weeks. Anyway, no connection to the club, and probably nobody in the ground even knew they existed until they were kidnapped, yet there was a minute's silence. With crowds of about 16,000 people at a game how many people die that do have a connection to either the fans in the ground, or the club itself and don't get one? I think I'm right in saying that in about 10 years the only silences we've had for our own fans have been when they've died either at (that old guy that had a heart attack or something in the ground and died in hospital later) or on the way to games (the young lad who was in the car accident on the way to Barnsley). We might have had one for the guy that died in the flooding as well.
Apologies if this has been mentioned but it might be around the time last year when he collapsed & was saved. I can't be arsed to read all the 3 pages as its costing me an arm & a leg with Internet here, but that might be the reason!

Believe it or not, it was actually the lead story on the news on Capital Radio when I arrived at my office one day early last week.
This thread has become very silly. Erik's explained several times that he doesn't mind Muamba thanking the Spurs fans and medical staff, he isn't against all remembrance silences and he in fact observes them all impeccably (apparently). I've lost count of the number of missing the point replies he's had on this thread and had to explain himself yet again, when really he isn't saying anything wrong and some people are even agreeing with him, including myself.
