Just a lack of a cutting edge in the last third tonight, but we know this is a problem until we can bring in at least one more striker. I was hoping we would bring a point back, although the Young boys result has helped us. If we did have one or two more strikers, they would have been in the squad for tonight and maybe have made the difference. All in all i'm not to p*ssed off, were still well in the group. It's been mentioned by others, but we have a real player on our books with Suso. This lad looks very, very good.
See your point jaffa, but mine was that Hiddink put his strongest team(that cost a fortune)out against what was basically our youth team and they won due to a goal that was because of Coates's poor marking. They are 2nd in the Russian league?, not making excuses jaffa just trying to put some context into proceedings
Yet we know they aren't useless. It was down to us playing well in the first two thirds of the pitch that got to them especially first half. Unfortunately we were just more useless than them in the final third (which is ultimately what counts).
Was really disappointed to be honest - Anzhi aren't the greatest side in the world and we gave them far too much respect. I really didn't like the fact that we allowed them to keep the ball in their half with little or no pressure. I thought we were supposed to be a high pressing team? Perhaps BR was playing for a point? A central midfield of Henderson, Shelvey, Coady with Cole ahead of them was never likely to create chances, especially without a player like Sahin or Gerrard - it was no coincidence that things changed as soon as Suso came on who gave us drive, composure and precision. Pacheco had a chance but I don't think he grasped it. However, we played with a team that had very little experience, against a side that has multi million pound stars and a world class coach in Hiddink. Credit to the young lads but I am still annoyed that we didn't 3 points.
It's your fu.king fault You should have known when I told you they'd ramped down at CERN that you MUST NOT WATCH THE MATCH, you stupid yank tosser.
I didn`t see your game so had a quick scan through your match thread to see how it went. The general consensus i got from reading the posts was that it was a pretty boring game, slow tempo and no real urgency. I then read the aftermatch interview with BR to the media where he thought it was a "terrific" match. Something doesn`t add up. Are the fans being overly harsh on what they call good football or is BR`s expectations set a lot lower? Like i say i didn`t see the game.
It was slow, but what do you expect the manager to say? He's always going to try and put a positive spin on it- in public at least. In the build-up I feared we might be in for the stuffing mito has been predicting. I'm glad that didn't happen, but I'm disappointed because that game was clearly winnable.
Not this game, as far as I'm aware. But he's said in the past that we're due for one, and I was afraid this was going to be it.
Seriously mate if you thought 3 points was realistic with our reserve team you need to re-think how strong you believe our squad to be. Pacheco's pretty much blown it for me now. Thought he was as hopeless as usual when he appears in the first team and Suso as skillful as he is completely failed to find the right ball on 4 or 5 seperate occassions. Skinning 2 or 3 players is all well and good but not when you have better options open to you. He'll learn though.
Could we have done better with the team that we put out? -Probably not! What did we learn from the experience? - Probably quite a lot! For me the following were the impressions that I was left with: We have a BIG hole in the centre of our defensive midfield. No matter what the personnel we play we have NOBODY but Lucas who can be relied upon the patrol the area in front of our back 4. Henderson appears to have gone backwards. He has the capability but his confidence and his willingness to take responsibility is sadly lacking. Shevely appears to believe that he is the re-incarnation of Gerrard - he isn't. Cole is a waste of space - end of! Downing is just not a Liverpool player. Good, bad or even indifferent, just show us HEART and we'll love you forever. Hide and play safety first ALL the time and we won't! Sorry Downing is now just too late. Similarly Pacheco. Mate you've had your chances and now is the time to say Goodbye.
No - I wasn't expecting anything more than a point with the starting line up we had. But I'm just saying that Anzhi were there for the taking and I expected a more adventorous line up - perhaps starting with Suso and Assaidi (but obviosuly BR had eyes on Sunday). I agree that Suso failed to find the right ball on a few occasions but he was the one who ran with the ball, beat the players, and got into the positions in the first place. We talk about how Downing just hides and plays the safe ball but at least Suso showed that promise and adventure, and we looked a lot more dangerous for it.
