Isn't this boy so knowledgeable? Adkins has done a fantastic job and if he was at a lot of other clubs he would not be under any pressure - compare his situation with Brian McDermott at Reading for example. The board are more likely to help McDermott in the January transfer window than do anything else. I cannot see that happening at Southampton and, because of the make-up of the boardroom at St Mary's, I think Adkins is under massive pressure now. (Lawro's prediction on http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20228221) Just what does Lawro know that the rest of us don't? What is his beef with Cortese? Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrggggghhhh! Help fellow Saints.
He knows nothing about SFC just has a dislike for our club and uses any excuse to try and disrupt our progress.
Channon, chill. Lawro knows nowt, mate. Cortese is not a twat. He will not, repeat not, sack Adkins if we lose on Saturday. You read it here first!
Yes he does seem to have some problem and I could doubt he could shed any light on what the make-up of our board actually is. (of course there are just four people on it) But I do hope he has an excellent week of predictions.
Lawro, like most other so called pundits dont bother to think in depth about anything. You can bet those comments are purely on the basis that Pardew was sacked two years ago - so with that in the back of his mind, not knowing any reason why pardew was fired, he has the opinion that Cortese is a trigger happy chairman. Whatever peoples view on Adkins i really hope that from the first whistle on Saturday we hear chants of there is only one Nigel Adkins (and not for it to start if we are lucky enough to go two nil up). Lets show our support from the start. I hope Nigel stays, if nothing else to prove twats like lawro wrong. You cant deny Nigels passion for the club and you cant become a bad manager after keeping your club in the top 2 of the championship all season (which is one of the hardest leagues to get out of). So whether you are like me and want him to stay and prove himself or you have had enough and think its time for a change, then if Swansea is his last game, lets chant his name from the start as a thank you for what he has done for Southampton Football Club.
So true. In many ways Cortese is the best thing about Southampton FC. Indeed he did and fair play to that. Seeing as Adkins has maintained that his position has never been under the kind of pressure the media [and indeed, some fans] have made it out to be, you'd think he'd take a second look at how our Chairman operates. Agreed, he won't. He'll back his man right up to the hilt. I said it about a week ago when there were polls beginning here on would succeed Adkins. Cortese will back his man, at the very least because he backs his own judgement. The outside world has absolutely no idea how resolute the guy is. We're a lucky football club to have them both.
So when he predicts a loss for us, it is a loss, and when he predicts a win it is a win? Basically, we lose all the time?
The media generally just feed off themselves. One pundit said (about Adkins position) there is no smoke without fire...just not true...if a rumour goes round and round it gains momentum of its own. The fact is that we are bottom of the league and any manager is under pressure to change that, but nothing has come out of SFC about any special pressure on Nigel. I was pleased that Adkins has come out and said that he has a good relationship with Nicola...we weren't always sure about that. A good relationship does not mean that he can't be sacked one day...that's the nature of the game. When a manager takes a job, he is usually on the road to dismissal (very rare for this not to happen). Cortese knows we need stability at the club, so he will try and avoid the sack option as long as he can.
Unfortunately he is paid to utter the rubbish that he sometimes comes out with. He thinks by being controversial it will earn him more plaudits. He really does not realise what a twat he has become. I would not go too much on his predictions either....the only time he gets it right is when it is almost certainly a dead cert anyway. You know the type of thing.....Man U against Accrington Stanley type game....."Oh I think Man U should just about edge this one". Yes you are right I don't have any time for the twat either!!
Since he shaved his moustache off, he's become a bigger prat than ever. I think it must have served as a sort of filter to reduce the flow of inane idiocy. Now it's gone, there's nothing holding back the utter bollocks that trips from his mouth.
This week he is up against an even bigger twat, James Arthur who I've never heard of but is on something called the X-Factor. Arthur says Swansea will beat us 1-0. He also has West Ham down to win 5-0 away to Newcastle, so don't worry too much folks.
Wow, this thread has made me feel so much better. I've been spending time on the Echo site where 70% of the posters are negative and believe that NC is some kind of fiendish ogre out to crush everyone around him. Nice to get a bit of balance. I'm with you all. I truly believe that NC is in this for the long haul and I suspect he is going to back NA through thick and thin. If I were him, I'd be hoping that in ten years I'd still be working with NA long after this blip is a distant memory. Vin
James Arthur is the one they are raving about on X-factor...he sings like he has constipation or a severe toothache. If his predictions are as good as his caterwauling, it's 3 points in the bag.
