Hamilton in 08, not a chance. He was Number 1 in the team and his team mate had to give best to him whenever Hamilton was anywhere near him And Webber even said he was a number 2 driver in 2010.
Kimi was favoured at the end of 2007. Hamilton did get upgrades first but I would guess they made the right choice in 08 since they did win the WDC and Heikki was weak. Jenson wasn't favoured at Brawn, Rubens just liked to make out that he was with the "blah blah blah" BS. Webber liked to pretend he was a Number 2, but he wasn't in 2010. He wasn't moaning in 2009 when he was Number 1 and Seb still beat him... Seb just ran away with 2011, Webber was made to look average. Seb still having same treatment as Webber, Alonso has number 1 status from the word go in Australia.
Yep... The Prophet Vettel does it all single handed. He even gives Newey tips on aerodynamics. The others all needed help and Webber is just a moaning, miserable paranoid Aussie git. Don't you lot know anything?
Prediction for 2013, McLaren will lead the design/refinement of the car more towards Jenson's driving style.. He'll start off the season well, but 6 races in, when they make the most minor tweaks to the rare wing end plate, he'll lose the plot, won't be able to find any grip anywhere, anytime and we'll find Perez (after starting the season with 5 DNFs due to him continuing to punt others and himself off the track) close the gap on Button, they'll both finish the year level on points and with one win each! They'll come 4th in the Constructors championship but look on the bright side, they will have been awarded, for the 4th year running, Carbon Neutral company of the year!
My prediction: Seb and Alonso wipe the floor with everybody else. Webber, Lewis and Button will follow behind.
yeah, because Webber ALWAYS tells it how it is (that was all Pastors fault). The guys so full of **** it's untrue, he was just spitting his dummy, as usual. That's the only bit that wasn't sarcastic
While your tongue is firmly in cheek, I think that the two drivers with different driving styles at Mclaren has affected development adversely throughout the current driver pairing and removing Hamilton from that equation could really help free Button up.
I hope your right! Anyone know Perez preferred car handling traits? Does he like a bit of Under-steer too? Only "serious" issue I have with these two is they aren't great qualifiers, and with the trend (don't really see it changing next year) of qualifying towards the front, pace the race and stay out of the hot air of the cars in front so you don't burn up the tyres. I can't help but feel these two will be hindered by maybe not getting the into Q3 often enough!
Do you have any proof that Perez isn't a good qualifier? he's had that Sauber quite high up in quali a few times without having a particularly good car.
I think Perez might like it to understeer, not sure. Certainly the Sauber is easier on its tyres than some other cars, hence the 'Perez one-stopper'.
I'd like to try once again* to clarify a subtlety often missed, particularly when some words (or quotes) are taken in isolation, rather than the whole context in which they were given. Button only prefers a (slight) tendency for understeer when weighed against oversteer. This is not the same as saying he likes his car to understeer! More than any other driver on the current grid, Button ideally wants his car to do neither!! This is the 'dead neutral' ideal he prefers, which in practice is extremely difficult to achieve, thus explaining Button's particular difficulty – especially in generating heat into the tyres quickly – because he is instinctively trying to limit 'slip-angle' to the absolute bare minimum. However, there is one obvious driver who actually does positively LIKE understeer (as opposed to a slight preference for it compared to oversteer): Fernando Alonso. As has already been said in the thread, Perez has a style more similar to Button than Hamilton – who positively loves oversteer! I hope it can be seen that the biggest 'opposites' are actually Alonso and Hamilton but this leads to another interesting point: being happy with oversteer OR understeer tends to make it easier for a driver to 'drive around' deficiencies in the chassis! Conversely, it is extremely difficult to drive around such deficiencies if one prefers to avoid both understeer and oversteer – as is the case with Button. Hence, very few drivers like to drive an absolutely 'dead-neutral' turn, which equates to a skier who carves a turn without throwing up any snow. It's very, very difficult to do when you're trying to go as fast as you can. I really hope people can see the subtle difference… - - -o0o- - - *I explained this last year at some length, despite being heckled by a member who was subsequently banned from the forum. It is a subtlety which is often too complicated for journalists to bother trying to explain – even if they understand it – because it requires the indulgence of the reader to wade through and I can think of no simpler way of explaining it**. **If someone can, please do!
