Just seen that Wiggins has been knocked off his bike by someone coming out on a road in the dark and turning right. Expected to make full recovery. This nearly happened to me recently: I looked left and saw a car lights in the distance and I started to come out, when luckily I saw a shadow pass across one of the headlights and realised a cyclist was between me and the car. Bike lights are totally inadequate...isn't it time they devised something like a flashing or coloured light system so that it is easier to differentiate between a bike light and a much brighter car light.

On a serious note though i agree that many cycle lights are sub-standard these days and some are damn hard to see. They seem to vary a lot and some are totally unfit for purpose in my view.

 

Of the 7 cyclists I passed driving back from town in the dark the other evening only 2 had lights. What was even more worrying was the number of them dressed in dark clothes.

As Mick Jagger once sang:

"Remember if you're out tonight on your bike wear white, Evening all."

 

It's a green and pleasant land, well capable of filtering obnoxious pongs from the west, don't forget we are downwind of Fawley, and St Marys is next to a gas works, we all have our problems!

 

There are some that constantly flash, but like you say there needs to be a standard and a consistency. It's not difficult to wear something reflective either. And another thing that really bugs me is the amount of cyclists that don't wear helmets. I don't care if it makes you look a numpty its going to save your life. Why is it not just made the law, like seat belts?

 

Leon Osman has FINALLY been called up to the England squad. Also, Wilshere back in which Wenger will disapprove of!

 

Wenger loves a moan so he'll love it really. Wilshere is in the squad based on performances before his lengthy injury lay off then. Since he's been back he has looked (understandably) rusty. Glad that an England manager has finally realised that Osman is English.

 

Wilshre might as well get match fit with England he can't with Arsenal after the red card!
