Uncle for me, though that's wishful thinking. Guy will probably get it as he's the cheapest option, it's no new names on the payroll.
If you are looking for a person who rates their own ability to do the job of manager, just pop over to the Saints board. We are all experts!
Avram's still got a soft spot for us. All we need to do is wait until he's finished his vacation in Bangkok and I'm sure he'll jump at the chance. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/ex-chelsea-boss-avram-grant-pictured-1419787 Seriously though, I dont think he'd be too far out of a shout really, if he wanted to be in football at all anymore.
If we wanted that then there are several hundred guys on the News website who would be just as qualified. Hell, I might even throw my name in the ring. I once got Basingstoke Town to be Premier League Champions in Football Manager!
Impressive! I only got them to the Conference National, same with Havant & Waterlooville. http://www.facebook.com/PortsmouthFCLadies
Yeah but I cheated. I edited them to have th best youth facilities in the game and gave them about twelve players that could have walked into any top team in the world. The best I've ever done without cheating was to get Weymouth to League Two.
He's only just gone to Havant and Waterlooville, and the Trust said this morning that they want the next manager to be promoted from within the club. So Guy's looking more and more like the front runner if he wants the job, if not then expect it to go to Alan McLaughlin
That worked out very badly for other internal promotions - Keith Millen for example at Bristol City, and there are lots of other examples. I wish our guys well and hope very much that it does work out for them.
Guy did a good job last time he was caretaker, and some of Pompey's best managers have historically come from within the club - Bob Jackson was a scout, Frank Burrows was Gentleman Jim's assistant - so it can work. But Guy said today that he's not sure he wants the job full time, he's prepared to be caretaker for as long as he's needed in that role but not prepared to even think about a full time appointment until after the club's ownership problem is sorted.
Whittingham in the News today: http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/whittingham-i-ll-stay-as-long-as-pompey-want-me-1-4453020 ‘I’d heard a few things but I was only told on Wednesday evening when Trevor Birch called me. ‘I’ve said before that when you get the chance to be in charge of this club for however long that may be, it’s a privilege. ‘But it’s too early to discuss whether I would want to do the job for the longer term. ‘It’s not about me. The most important thing at the moment is that this football club keeps going and it comes out of administration. ‘I’m prepared to do it for as long as I’m needed. Trevor asked me to take charge on Saturday, which I’m delighted to do. Then we can sit down and discuss things in more detail after the Bury game.’ That's not saying he doesn't want to be the manager, just that he's not prepared to think about until the club's future is secure.
Being the great gentleman that he is, wouldn't Linvoy taking the helm echo the situation back in 1977, when Gentleman Jim was persuaded to step into the position? JD's health nosedived, possibly because he cared too much about the club he loved to listen to his body. I wouldn't like to see LP in the same scenario. This extra upheaval within the club can only have a detrimental effect on the players. I hope they can keep it together. I reckon the new gaffer, who-ever it will be, will have one brief for the remainder of the season: Keep us in League One! We basically need a manager who can make some-thing and get results from nothing. An ex-Blue Peter presenter perhaps?
