amazing to think how far this team has came in the last 12 months. I think Lenny has to take great credit for what he has done. His record speaks for itself. we here constantly about how some of our better players will be moving on-when the price is right. How long before a cash rich EPL team come in and try and tempt him down south? he's done ok for someone who does not win big games.
I'd forgotten about that pearl of wisdom! Lenny has done exceptionally well, for a Rookie. To have the balls to keep two strikers on when you are one up against Barca with twenty minutes left, says a lot. Sure, we parked the bus, but we had options when we had possession and those options paid dividends. I'm not one for stats, but I would reckon that Lenny's W-D-L record in Europe is better than The Man With No Surname - despite the latter's umpteen attempts - and that result last night, was better than anything achieved by a Scottish team for decades
I wouldn't say we parked the bus. I think the bus was pushed back and penned in. Mourinho's Inter parked the bus and deliberately punted the ball away to re-set the defensive line. We weren't like that at all. I think we took lessons from that but it certainly wasn't a blueprint.
It's amazing how tweaks to Sir Walters system has reaped rewards for so many sides against Barca now. If only we had decent strikers at the time, we would probably have gaped Barca too.
What system? Playing defensively and hoping to score the odd goal to defend a lead? What, like cattenaccio? In the 1960's? Yeah, no one had ever played like that before the huge European failure that is Walter Smith. I'll assume the second part of your post is tongue in cheek, cos, like Venom said, you had the bestest striker ever in the SPL - and thats another world record, surely?
Morning Rebs. Semantics here, probably, but we certainly knew what our defensive jobs were and evryone was very well drilled. Bodies were put on the line and the ball was hoofed away on a fair few occasions last night. But like I said, we had options when we had possession. We looked to play the ball forward. There certainly wasn't any hit and hope plans attached to what we were doing. Over the two games, I think we deserved four points given the effort we put in, but three points and two great performances that'll give so much confidence will do just as well.
You see what we did at the kickoff after they scored? Pass back to Wanyama and he just pelted it 50 yards down field towards no-one in particular
