    Preview

Group leaders Liverpool are sending the youth squad, Carra and two muppets out to Degestan to hopefully remain top.

    Liverpool

Liverpool squad: Jones, Gulacsi, Cole, Assaidi, Pacheco, Henderson, Coates, Downing, Wilson, Carragher, Suso, Shelvey, Coady, Yesil, Flanagan, Wisdom, Robinson, Morgan, Sama.

A very inexperienced squad and when looking over them briefly, it is easy to think they will come undone to the soviets (not really). Hopefully Cole won't feature, having said that, he will probably start. It would be nice to see Henderson start in his favoured centre midfield and Pacheco to be given a chance (again).

Here is my prediction on the team:

    Anzhi

After losing to a rare Downing goal at Anfield, Anzhi went on to lose to Rubin. Since then, they have played two home games against Kryliya sovetov (close to soviet, saintanton) and the easier to type, spell and enunciate.... Terek. They won both games and remain on good form in Russia. This leaves them right on the arse of CSKA, in quite a competitive league, as money orientated as our own anyway.

Anzhi are second in the group with four points, but could go above Liverpool with a victory.

Samuel Eto'o is obviously a good player, while Liverpool will also have to contend with the height of 6ft 8ins Lacina Traore, who puts Carroll and his ponytail to shame. Samba is a blackburn level player, who took full advantage of getting more money and playing in the cold of Russia, good on him!
They also have Jerkoff, who was useless with the chavs and one of the best ever players in Roberto Carlos, who wears glasses!

Anzhi are located in the disputed and greatly nervous region of Degestan as I have said before, however, because of this we will be playing in Moscow. Lokomotiv to be exact! This means they might not be as comfortable as first thought, can this play into the small hands of our developing players?

It should also be noted, that it is Guud Hiddink's Birthday today, so hopefully he has nothing to celebrate, other than some cake.

    The officials

The officials for the UEFA Europa League Group A fourth round match Anzhi – Liverpool will be the team of Spanish referee David Fernandez Borbalan. Linesmen will be Raul Martinez and Jorge Prieto, additional goal referees will be César Muñiz and Javier Fernández, fourth official - Jose Miranda.

David Borbalan is 39 years old, he lives in the Spanish town of Almeria. He referees Spanish Primera Division matches since 2005. Since 2010 he works at international level.

For the Spanish referee it will be the third time refereeing matches of Russian clubs. In 2011 Borbalan refereed matches where Rubin and CSKA secured away wins over Dynamo Kiev and Inter respectively.

Disclaimer, I stole nothing from Chris.

    Liverpool win seems popular.

I've repped you just for this line "Chris is away, so the jaffas come out to play!"

I've gone for a draw. Can't really see it, but can't bring myself to vote for a defeat.

Very disappointed in you Chris, letting an amateur take over match thread duties!

Jaffa, this is your only chance to displace Chris, make sure you make the most of it! <ok>

    Best match thread ever <ok>

Can't see anything other than defeat here so I'd be well happy with a draw. Looks like a weak squad but our best hope will be if we can soak up the inevitable Anzhi pressure and utilise Assaidis pace to hit them on the break. Not particularly confident about this one but hope we give them a good game at least.

Apparently it could be one of our lowest away attendances in a European game in years due to the Anzhi chairman being involved in some sort of shenanigans with the tickets.

I can understand why such an inexperienced squad was taken as we need to be at our best on Sunday. It would be nice if some of those players made the most of this opportunity.

I read it twice, brilliant stuff.

I have also updated the thread as of this morning, for some extra information on Anzhi.
