Victor Wanyama - "... to beat one of the best teams in the world, it's not easy ..." He was fantastic tonight as was Fraser Forster and of course the rest of the team were excellent but just in case it escaped anyone's notice I thought Adam Matthews was outstanding - the way he handled Lionel Messi was as good as I've seen anyone do it ... and that ain't easy ...
Trevor enjoy your 140 days celebration in December when it comes , on our 125 th birthday we beat the greatest team in the world . The fourth time we've beaten a number one seed in champions league , your dead club never once defeated one , did u ever get over the half way line against them ????
Matthews was excellent. Davie Provan said after 50 minutes that we were narrow and that was a deliberate ploy.......it only took him 140 minutes to recognise that.
still cant understand the refs decision to "play on" when Watt was brought down from behind while running through on goal ; I thought that was a shocker of a decision.
And Song/ He could have been off twice.
Yeah, Song, I agree but see how it could be a bit more open to interpretation, the one with Watt was absolutely clear cut.
Well apparently we only complain about refs when we lose.... So i am not sure why I am beelridden about the ref. He was ****e and we still won.
That was maybe our most high profile game of the season and big Victor was immense. I'd be surprised if we can keep hold of him until the end of season - and I'm happy that Neil Lennon's 25m price anchorage may now actually encourage a stupid (15m-ish) bid.
Victor should have taken The new contract he was offered. We are going to punt him anyway. All the best and all that.
i think we can keep him until the end of the year. if barca beat spartak we are guaranteed euro football after christmas . i think this should be enough to convince him to stay. he was outstanding. forster put another couple of mill on his price tag as well, surely he will be in every england squad from here on
Stuff the possesion stats , over the 2 games Celtic lead Barcelona for 95 mins , Barcelona led Celtic for 5 seconds !!!!
so when we beat spartak it was because they are the worst team in the comp and were down to 10 men. when we were defeated narrowly in the nou camp it was because we were lucky and played total anti football. looking forward to the insight after tonight. anti football maybe?, barca no longer the team they were?
listening to the bbc sportsound podcast Richard Gordon states "we can't stand much more of this armgeddon"
I think I quite like him. Check out Wee Rabiu Ibrahim please log in to view this image He's front and centre in every Celtic celebration this year. I love him. Much better than John Terry. Leo Messi, who scored Barçaâs only goal against Celtic on Wednesday, said: âWeâre still in first place in the group, weâre not worried.â The Argentine also noted that âI think we did a good job, we created chances but the ball didnât go in.â Messi concluded his post-match interview by analysing Celticâs approach to the match: âThe same thing happened at the Camp Nou. They played defensively and they waited to make fast counterattacks. They are very comfortable on corners and set pieces, and thatâs how they scored their two goals.â Statements made by FC Barcelona players after the match: Cesc Fà bregas: âThere is no such thing as injustice or justice in football. You have to win and thatâs it. We lacked depth, we had our chances and they scored on the chances they had.â âWe have to continue with our style of play, weâre very pleased with the season that weâre having.â âWe have two games left and weâll try to win them.â Jordi Alba âIf we hadnât had the chances we created I wouldnât be leaving with the feeling I have, but itâs time to focus on our next match.â âWeâre coming up against teams that close themselves off at the back and weâre finding it difficult to get into the opposing teamâs area, but weâre not worried about it.â âThe match allowed for the right and left backs to push forward. Each day Iâm feeling better and more comfortable when I go forward.â âThey created chances on set pieces because they know weâre not a very tall team, but we also created a lot of chances but their keeper was brilliant.â Marc Bartra âWe didnât score from the chances we created, they were very effective; thatâs what was in their favour.â âWe have to move on and keep on working. We have to be optimistic knowing that weâre group leaders.â Tito Vilanova: "I don't like to lose, but if we have to lose, let it be this way."
