Your father's side of the family with Irish ties - are they quite happy to live in England accepting benefits paid out because of the taxes paid by English people or have they gone back to a free and not so prosperous Ireland? Same with Scots, they seem quite happy to live in a country that has supposedly treated them so badly.

It'd also be worth some people being a tad less racist in their selection of which bit of history offends them and realise the English were victims of abuse from our neighbours at times too, we're just civilised enough to rise above it.

If i remember rightly, the Union was a political and economic union between England & Scotland. We even invited a bankrupt nation's king to be ours. We didn't take them over, however the SNP rewrite history.

Historic incidents of our country like the Jacobite rebellion was surpressed by Scottish regiments, not English. It's made worse by the verse in God Save The Queen about squashing rebellious Scots. Even if nobody sings it. Flower of Scotland is about beating the English, but nobody whinges about it.

If you want to hark on about William Wallace and Edward Longshanks, then fine, both gave each other a pasting and border raids were frequent on from both sides. They even sided with the French to get one over us.

Alot of the troubles in Ireland was caused by the Brits, but you can't pin point it on the English, alot of them were Scottish battalions ie Black Watch, Black & Tans. Now the seperatisits pin that on England. It takes the piss. The IRA/PIRA/Real IRA have done damage on our land for decades.

Alot of Scots, Norn Ireland, & Welsh are proud Brits. I'm fine with them talking of their heritage. I am of mixed heritage myself.

No one is truly "English" are they, much like the "Americans" arn't true Americans, my mother's side are English and they have been English settlers since the 1900s, before that they were Polish-Jews, my father's side are pretty much the same, English settlers for a hundred years, but before that they were Irish-Catholics, I'm pretty sure if you all look at your family tree you will find mixes of Anglo-Saxons, Romans, Vikings, French, Hispanic, Celtic and other types of people, neither of my parents or either Grandparents cares much for religion or race, but their is a weird mix of race and history

Native Americans are truly American in the the same way that the original settlers of these shores left when the ice receded are 'English' albeit the title's open to debate. Most people on these Islands now share their heritage with the original settlers, the later ones being shown to have made little overall impact on our heredity.

For your argument to have legs, it'd kill your other argument about the Irish hating the English as neither would exist for the same reasons. In fact all nationalities would cease to exist by your argument.



People decrying English patriotism seem to apply very different rules to the nationality of whatever patchwork of peoples make up other nations.
