To be honest, I don't like this thread either. Cortese might be backing his man more than the most ardent Saints supporter. Anyway, I voted for Nigel.
Sorry for people not liking the poll. Is silly I agree. only has a couple of days closing date so will disappear soon ONE NIGEL ADKINS
There is, quite simply no-one who could replace Nigel Adkins. Someone else might come in and do the job but they wouldn't have Nigel's wit and positivity. In nearly 50 years of supporting Saints I have seen a good few managers come and go but Nigel is in the top three. Only Lawrie Mac has achieved more, and only Ted Bates comes close. Those of you who are in your early years of following this club should be very grateful you have had the chance to see greatness at work. Cortese was spot on in appointing Nigel in September 2010 and he would be mad to sack him.
If Nigel is sacked, I want Saints to keep him as a pet. Can't bear the thought of struggling to understand a foreign manager or an angry, spluttery English manager. We have been spoilt...we demand a joke-meister with a taste for poetry and philosophy.
Blimey. A thread about a replacement for Nigel that doesn't mention 'Arry! I am old enough to remember Lawrie Mac, and even Ted Bates. Oh why wasn't there not606 back then? Can you imagine the howls as Ted produced one of the ugliest teams to ever pull on the stripes (the ale-house brawlers; formation was 10-0-1 with Channon running after anything that was hoofed down the field). Then Lawrie. First season - relegation. Second season mid-table dross. OK he won the Cup the next season, but it was another awful year after that. And we rightly talk of this man as being our greatest manager. How we loved it when we were a top 6 team in the early 80's, but if the likes of this forum had existed and been listened to we'd have never have got anywhere near. Adkins will prove to be one of the great Saints managers. Just wish he'd hurry up about it!
