Mark Hughes: The most deluded man in football? « Back Page Football http://backpagefootball.com/mark-hughes-the-most-deluded-man-in-football/50716/ #QPR
Agree Matt Lucus will be okay as Reading are big over achievers. Really, they are a Championship club and he has done well. They spent no money so what do the owners expect? The accountant sounded like he was beggin to keep his job after the WBA game. Once again he has done well to bring Saints up and you would have to be a mercenary to sack him. As for Hughes? Spent loads of dosh. Got in his own team. Said that we wouldn't be in the same position again (we may end up lower)? And we are second from bottom. Interesting?
Reading and Southampton's managers are achievers, they've dragged their clubs to improbable heights, two successive promotions in the case of the Saints. What has Hughes ever achieved as a manager? Al-Fayed called him "strange" and a "flop", can't disagree with that although I'd add "miserable bastard".
Not sure I'd take a character reference from Wacko Jacko fan Fayed, but Hughes does have the look of someone deeply uncomfortable in social situations......
As someone said in answer to that article, 'Hughes should go because it looks like the best we can aim for this season is survival and that just doesn't match Hughes' ambitions'

Seems like Southampton have had a similar run of fixtures as we have had - we have played 8 sides who have had a storming start to the season if you don't count their results with us - sides like West Brom. Southampton wasted so much money it is ridiculous. We spent half of what they did on 12 players. They spent 30m, 19m on two players. And I will say, I hate to say "I told you so" as I hate using that term, but before the season started I expressed my concern that there was not enough goals in our side, and unfortunately I am being proven right.
The thing is they are only in the top half because they got 6 points of us and Saints, take 6 points off them and 75% will be in the bottom half. Its a complete fallacy that its been a difficult start.
The teams we have faced do not only have points in the bag, but they have also started well in terms of ability on the pitch. Teams like West Brom and Everton have not only won games but also played extremely well even in games they havent got results in. Most of the teams we have faced have been high on confidence.
But the fact they have won other games has given them that momentum to continue that. I see your point, but momentum in football is a massive thing. Look at us in our first 19 games when we won the NPC. We were on a roll at the time. Good performances = Wins = Confidence = Further good performances = More wins. Take everton for example - they started with a win over Man Utd.
