Tickets for my 9 year old son and I have arrived for the Man Utd game.

Need to now book the travel, thinking of going up there by train, anyone like to share their best travel route to Manchester?

Also need suggestions on somewhere to head for once we arrive, aiming to get there around 12.30 to soak in the atmosphere!

    Who else will be going?

There's not much around the ground as OT is on the edge of the Trafford Park Industrial Area other than the Lou Macari Legends chippy its pretty barren.

Better to have a spot of lunch in and around Piccadilly station and then get the train up to the ground or easier by cab and its not very far. If you're driving there is loads of paid parking, a good one to use is Old Trafford Cricket Ground a 5 - 10 mins walk away.

I'll be going on the train from Sheffield, a spot of lunch at the Briton's Protection pub in town and then a cab to the ground

It's my first trip to old Trafford as well! I was at the Etihad on the final day last season, so it'll be nice to compare and contrast.
Someone said you need binoculars to see much though.. <eek>

When we went there in the League Cup, they put us up very high, on the third tier.

For league games, you are lower down but more in the corner.

The tram from Piccadilly to Old Trafford is the Bury tram, if I remember correctly.

As WBA said there is nothing by Old Trafford. There is an away friendly pub by the Industrial estate (can't remember the name) where I drank last time, it's about a 10 minute walk to the ground from there. Your best bet is Picaddily though. I'm sure if City aren't playing that day you'll see some of their fans wishing you good luck (I did anyway)

I don't want to put a downer on your day but having been to both for Night games I must say I much preferred the Etihad to Old Trafford, much better viewer and not high up in the Gods.

Old Trafford is one of those grounds you should experience though good or bad.

Yeah it's whichever one is the Yellow Tram (can't remember).

That will take you virtually to the ground, get off at Old Trafford and a 5 min walk from there. East stand (away section) is the nearest and located by the Megastore and behind Busby statue <ok>
