Tony Fernandes is to step down as Caterham team principal. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/104084 His replacement is 'someone from within F1'. James Key?
I thought someone might say that. In which case, what about the fellow who left STR this season? I forget his name.
Giorgio Ascanelli. No-one really knows what he's doing at the moment, but there were a few rumours of heading to Ferrari a while back.
Well, Mr Fernandez does have rather deep pockets.. But I'd have thought Schumacher would go onto some global brand ambassador role with Mercedes?
It's some guy I've never heard of, who joined Caterham as their CEO and will now combine that with being team principal. http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/8235153/Abiteboul-is-new-Caterham-team-boss Given that Fernandes stepped down because he felt he was too business-oriented and lacked the necessary F1 knowledge, can't really see this giving them the push they need.
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2012/11/08/cyril-abiteboul-takes-caterham-team-principal/ Cyril Abiteboul. Doesn't ring any bells for me.
I'd say it's better to have some F1 experience than none, but it's still a pretty underwhelming appointment. I at least expected to have heard of the guy. Saying that, if this is the final step that gets Caterham into the midfield and gives us a closer competition, he's got my 100% support.
I think they're the worst performing team tbh, they have the current WCC/WDC winning engine and KERS but are hardly faster than the Marussia, if HRT & Marussia had the same who would be the worst?
STR are the worst team on the grid. They have huge backing. The resource of the 3xWCC team Red Bull. Engines of the greatest Manufacturer in F1 history and the creme de la creme of the Red Bull young drivers pool yet... they are only just quicker than the bottom 3. I prefered them when they were Minardi
