1. Evans. Arguably his best game in a city shirt, fits in perfectly between Koren and Quinn. 2. Aluko. 3. Simpson. Still can't get my head round how that went in! The way he holds the ball up on his own has been a huge asset in these recent games when we're defending constantly.
evans for me,made some great tackles, gotta mention mcshane as well ,not his biggest fan but hes getting back to the player we originally took on loan,we all know his capabilities but hes doing really well at he moment! once hobbs is fit he will probably be dropped but hes really doing a good job at the moment as he did when he first came to us ,hes limited but he certainly isnt worried about sticking his head in when others wouldnt !! good luck to the lad hes doing a good job in a very good team !
It's really hard to find anyone that stands out this week: 1) Simpson - great goal but his hold-up play was excellent too. 2) Aluko - mostly for the free kick 3) Bruce - made a few decent tackles before going off injured Aluko still frustrates the hell out of me. He's got Mendy-itis. For every bit of genius we see he could do three more but tries to do something silly or half-hearted and messes it up, like he's constantly playing at 70% and if he could just play at the tempo of say Evans he'd be a world beater and while Bruce made some good tackles as I said, he only has to because he gets into those positions in the first place. Chester never has to make those kind of tackles. And his hoofing the ball every time he touches it is getting worse, I really don't see why someone can't just coach that out of him. It just means every time he wins the ball he's giving them it straight back. The fact that I have more bad to say than good about 2 of the top 3 sums the game up for me really. Evans made some great tackles but some of his passes are just attrocious and they get worse every game. Once today he had a simple ball back to McShane and tried to curl it in the air to him and ****ed it up almost finding Amos instead when it just needed sliding across the floor, then there was another in the 2nd half when he tried to pick out Aluko who wanted it to feet but booted it way past him, again in the air and to make it worse, Koren was stood open right in front of him for an even easier pass. Chester gave the ball away too many times for me, he might have deserved to be in the top 3 but I expect better from him, McShane was McShane, the wing-backs didn't get a lot of service and were both injured and Koren and Quinn weren't really on the ball enough. No standout individual performances today but a well ground out result.
Evans..back to his best. Simpson..holding ball up well and finding good positions. Faye...three good CLEARING headers when Wolves were throwing everything at us.!
Evans - showing what a class act he really is, both defensively and going forward Simpson - How the **** did he score that goal? Held the ball up really well. Bruce - constantly having to prove himself and succeeding!! And for coming back onto the pitch at the end of the game, despite being injured, to applaud the fans.
Your obsession with Evans being crap is seriously unhealthy, it's all down to opinion but slating him for 2 misplaced passes when everyone in the team was just giving the ball away free of charge is just ridiculous. Everyone except 3 people on here (yourself included) think he had his best game for the club, the other 2 have him as second. Manager, pundits, even kcfm mom text in people had him as excellent and you slate him for 2 misplaced passes And just to clarify that one to mcshane was actually a pad back to Amos which got held up in the wind, and the one to Aluko was DEFINITELY the right thing to do, had Aluko read it and run fr it he'd have been clear through on goal, the pass was pin point, you can only really blame Aluko for that. What happened to you? You used to be reasonable.
Aluko made the run then stopped and wanted it to feet, it was the right pass from Evans and had Aluko kept running he was in. You can't moan about Evans after his last 2 peformances he has been our best player in both games, the amount of covering he does for people who are out of position is phenomenal. Not forgetting he is playing a role that doesn't suit him, he's a box to box midfielder not a holding player even so he's doing brilliantly.
I'm not really having a go at him more than anyone else, I agree that our ball retention overall wasn't good enough but I just think he wastes the ball far too often and in such stupid circumstances and last night, I thought, was a prime example. I singled out those two passes because they were the worst ones, but it's a regular thing that he does it. I think the issue really is that he doesn't know his limitations, he needs to realise he's an Ashbee type enforcer and not a playmaker which he seems to think he is when he tries these massive curled passes. It's the same problem Marney and Harper had - great vision but can't complete the passes they see. I'm not slating him completely. I thought defensively he did quite well and I can understand his nominations for MotM. I just personally didn't think he was worth it due to wasting the ball so much and so poorly, since I was in the minority I thought that needed explaining.
