As much as i've been impressed with how much Simpson has changed since he went out on loan, he's still no goalscorer. Although, he's better then McLean.
We need to find a replacement for Matty Fryatt sooner rather then later, to become a real force in this league. Where not clinical enough in front of goal, its not like they're not getting the chances!

Bruce is definitely on the look out for a striker, its easier said than done bringing quality in on loan

I suppose if we knew Fryatt was going to be out for the whole season earlier we would have tried to get Sharp on loan.

Well looking at players who were available if we had of known earlier and who would have scored goals consistently for us, then yes I think we would.

I really don't understand how people can just state that Simpson 'isn't a goalscorer' without explanation. He's having a great season for us and the holy Fryatt has had way drier spells than Simpson is on now.

If the ball flashes across the area you know Simpson will get the tap-in. For me that is a goalscorer. In the same situation our other strikers would be messing about on the edge of the box somewhere but Simpson is always in the right place for the easy chances and most importantly he can actually shoot properly which is something we've been missing since JVoH. Those are the two things that make a goalscorer and he has them both. Simpson is the most natural goalscorer we have.

In all fairness, a couple of his strikes against Barnsley did not suggest someone who can shoot properly.

I missed the game so I'll have to take your word for it, but in general his shooting is very good. He hits the corners, he can use both feet and he does it with power as well as accuracy. Look back at his goals against Milwall and Peterborough and ask yourself who else in our team could finish like that?

I agree but thats not really saying much is it. There are 21 players who have scored more goals than Simmo. He needs to start banging them in or SB will get another forward in.

So do I, but just in case:

I'm not going to remove a physical description of him when the whole point was the referee's inability to realise he was talking to the wrong player despite their totally contrasting physical appearances. I'm not going to remove the term ****er, because the dirty git was clattering into players right, left, and centre making no effort to actually play the ball, but doing it in such a way that they weren't quite yellow card offences.

    You were all saying...? ;)

Sorry, I'm going to end up being a right smug bastard every time Simmo scores for the rest of the season <laugh>

That goal was impossible! Wind was blowing in that direction it has to have blown it in, the ball was literally on the line when he struck it and it was clean, no deflection at all. All credit to him for trying it ****ing unbelievable, lady luck was most certainly on our side tonight.

Agreed. From my seat it looked like it was gonna hit the side netting and suddenly it hit the far post and went in, took me completely by surprise.

It wasn't just that unbelievable goal, his hold up play was outstanding,as was his all round play. Jay's gone from strength to strength this season. Forget what youv'e seen in the past,we have a real striker on our hands. A new and improved contract please !

Knew Simpson was going to get back scoring soon posted it elsewhere on here, and I'm in the prefering Simpson to Fryatt camp too.

Brilliant finishes for both goals today, how Simpson got that in I have no idea...

He looked really sharp and up for it today, was very impressed. Same with Evans.

Simmo's finish tonight was unbelievable, he had a very good game too. First touch excellent and held the ball up very well. Great work rate and movement.
On current form he is better than Fryatt.

Funny how people's opinions change dramatically after one game haha.
Simmo's a good lad, puts in a good shift, holds the ball well and has a good first touch. Still don't think he is a true goalscorer and would love us to bring one in. Fair play to him, that finish was mind-boggling, expected him to get a second right at the dead too, but hey-ho, his best performance since Bolton/Millwall.
