If it is a dead heat as in both get 270 electoral votes then the house(which the republicans run)decide who is president and the senate(which the democrates run) decide who will be vice. So it would be a Republican president, Romney and a democrat vice, Biden.
Not sure, I read it in an article on the bbc website a couple of days ago, I was just trying to find it, but can't remember the name of it. Anyway, judging by the stock markets, which are pretty much all up today, the big boys think Romney will win, they are seldom wrong.
Here it is here Ciaran, don't think it has happend before. American politics is at its most partisan and polarised in more than a century, many analysts say. But it could get much, much worse - Romney could be elected president and Joe Biden re-elected vice-president. Under the US constitution, if the electoral college (the sum of electoral votes from each state - 270 and you're president) ends in a tie - and there are several scenarios under which this could occur - the election is sent to the 435-member House of Representatives. This is currently Republican-controlled and is unlikely to change hands, so they would choose Romney. But under the same clause, the Democrat-led Senate would choose the vice-president - Joe Biden. Biden might then be tempted to undermine Romney at every turn. "A historic tie, which would spur demonstrations that would make the healthcare battle look like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, seems a logical conclusion of the bitter partisan paralysis here and the bottom-feeding campaign," wrote New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd last week
The "city" have a lot riding on the outcome, generally markets go up when a Republican is going to win.
Now that I think about it, I think I prefer Mahmoud's thread about the election better than this one. **** you Pud!
Romney is exactly what the Americans need. Someone to promise them everything will be alright, have a nice smile, be a honky, and ignore the rest of the world for at least four years to concentrate on being super. If they vote him in they get what they deserve.
We'll all get what Americans deserve, sadly. If Romney wins (I reckon he will - hope he doesn't), he will declare war on a country within four months of taking office. His hawners will step in and, before you know it, coffins will be flying in to the Wooton Bassett area from Iran/Syria/Yemen/Egypt delete as appropriate. If he wins, British soldiers will die in another country - it's that simple.
