Damiao and Wolfswinkel can come in and do the job straight away. They are young but they are not playing reserves or youth, they are playing high level first team footy. Sporting and Internacional play a similar style to us so should be able to fit in straight away.
Point taken, Bluff. Their scoring records are good for the past couple of years. However, neither have proven themselves at big clubs. My worry would be that they don't have the psychological 'grit' required to maintain that record at a higher level. I agree they could turn up and do a job, but what if they didn't? They'd be a lot more expensive and could lose the club a lot of money. That is the gamble, I suppose. Also, as both are young and, as such, represent a risky investment, if only one of Wolfswinkel or Damiao could be bought, who would you sign?
You're missing something Huntelaar is an instinct striker, instinct strikers don't think..they shoot, in a way like Dirk Kuyt, if they think too much about scoring they usually miss. Ruud Van Nistlerooy is a prime example. Let Suarez and Sterling do the thinking i.e. draw out the defenders and let the instinct striker shoot on sight like a sniper. The exception to this is Robbie Fowler, he was instinctive, but he could also think before pulling something off, he's the cleverest finisher I've seen in 20 years.
i agree on the yonug lads.. they are nowhere near the level to play in our first team. morgan and yesil got a sniff and rightly so but n'goo has'nt the ethic. fair enough on llorente in terms of stature but he's always played in spain.... huntelaar has a great record but if you drill into it its interesting. appearances given plus goals in brackets 2002â2004 PSV 1 (0) 2003 → De Graafschap (loan) 9 (0) 2003â2004 → AGOVV (loan) 35 (26) 2004â2006 Heerenveen 46 (33) 2006â2009 Ajax 92 (76) 2009 Real Madrid 20 (8) 2009â2010 Milan 25 (7) 2010â Schalke 04 62 (40) He bascially always scored a lot of goals in holland and really set the world of ajax alight and thus attracted the attnetion of many including as i remember it Utd. remind us of anyone? (kuyt) when he wnet to madrid he didn't actually do too bad there but didn't get games and got sold on only lasted a half season. why? manager change.. who knows.... nearly a 1 in 2 retrun when he went to AC he didn't get in under leonardo and as we know he didn't alst too long as manager either... again not a bad but not a great return and he moved on again quickly and milan brough in zlatan. since then his goals have flowed again in a lague much more similar to the english league in style but again he's not in dispute with his latest club. I almost want to disregard his goals in holland as we can all see form kuyt and even suarez that mega records don't translate. I'd be more interested in his retrun in spain and germany and if he creates that kind of return he'd be like suarez for us. not messi like as rodgers says (as at ajax suarez scored like messi) but a top player. all this said.... he's still a front man and one who'll stay in the middle all the time and we have to ask ourselves is that what rodgers wants? I'd not mind it one bit as i'd rather play like chelsea did in 4-3-3 with drogba than how we are playing!
I think thats exactly what Brendan wants, he has Suarez and Sterling to play wide and come deep and win posession in midfield areas, I don't think he needs a third player to do likewise. I reckon if he signed Huntelaar or whoever, the sole intention must be that they stay centrallly and feed on whatever Suarez and Sterling create.
