West Ham captain Kevin Nolan believes Sam Allardyce deserves the chance to manage in the UEFA Champions League.

Allardyce's Hammers will take on Newcastle at the weekend - the team that fired him in 2008 - with his side currently just two points away from the top four.

And while European qualification is a huge ask for the newly-promoted outfit, this is the third club at which Nolan has worked with Allardyce and he is in no doubt that his manager has earned the opportunity.

"I think the boss deserves to be mingling with the top managers week-in week-out," said Nolan, quoted in The Sun.

"I have lots of admiration for him and what he has done for me as a player.

"After working with him for a long time I firmly believe he belongs in the Premier League and I'm a bit gutted he hasn't been given the chance with a really top club.

"He has worked at top clubs but I mean a club that is always in the top four or five so he can have a go at the Champions League."

Love Kev but he is well wide of the mark here. What he really needs to ask himself before making such comments, is which top 4 type club fans is going to want to watch his style of percentage direct football? The answer is none.

Kevin Nolan although not a bad guy, now and then comes across as a bit of an idiot... why has he skippered Newcastle?

I am pleased with his contributions in bringing us back in the EPL and also his display one fine Halloween but, Jesus, he is a bit of an idiot.

West Ham hadn't played anyone until City and they will be stuggling for the next month for points looking at their fixtures.

Lets hope we get a win against them otherwise all we'll hear is he was the best manager newcastle ever had etc

He isn't a bad manager but he is very overrated and its not as if west ham haven't spent alot of money

I hated Fat Sham's style but I bet if he were manager we'd have scored from more than 1 set-piece since Sept 2011. We're ****ing woeful at set-pieces!

Fat Sam is so far up his own arse he can lick hisw own tonsils from the inside.

He's so fat... when he has a dump the entire rat population of the Tyneside sewage system throw a party.

He's so fat... if he went on a diet, Macdonalds would be forced to declare it to the stock exchange as their profits would be wrecked.

He's so fat... his arse wakes up an hour later than he does due to the time difference...

It was thanks to the signings and sales of Allardyce that we got relegated. Nolan jumped ship for money not even signing for a Premier League team.

Aye but watch ****e every week and score a few set pieces or play football properly and sacrifice the set pieces? Its a no brainer! That said we do need something from dead balls. Personally I think we need someone who can take one first!

I read an interview with him, I think it was yesterday or Monday where he claimed life in Newcastle was like living in a goldfish bowl, didn't another player describe it as the same?

He also claimed he wouldn't have lost his spot in your side, had he stayed. I don't think he'd have been a regular starter had he stayed last season, your midfield was pretty decent without him, probably just another deluded scouser.

I liked Nolan but his fitness levels and ability would have dictated him being reduced to watching Cabaye. The goldfish bowl was Jenas. Like Jenas I think much of it stems from a bit of bitterness.

Though no one would deny that you are under scrutiny here as the club is massively important in the city. Bottom line is though if you perform on a Saturday, the rest never gets mentioned. Nobby Solano was a complete playboy. But he rocked up every week and performed. His extra activities never got a mention. Pistone was around at the same time and was out with Solano a lot. He was ****e every week and was under intense scrutiny.
