As others have mentioned, take the leading goal scorer out of each team and they would be struggling. We didn't buy Luis just to look pretty and wind people up - we bought him to create and score which is what he has done. There is no doubt that we are reliant on his goals. What concerns me is that we are far too reliant on him to provide any creativity and spark to our attack. Without him, we would struggle to create chances and unlock defences.
Spot on. So if/when we go shopping for strikers in Jan does that mean we should go for one creative player and one out and out goalscorer, players who can do a bit of both, or just go for two players who can play either side of Suarez. Will he be planning to keep Suarez in the middle now he's banging them in or want to play him on the right with a more natural finisher in the middle? Interesting dilemna that's for sure.
I do hope Rodgers is looking at proper centre forwards - purely for the fact that we need at least one person who is lurking around the 6 yard box. Suso and Sterling are not strikers, so its understandable that they don't know when and where to run in the box. A good striker will find the space or will drag defenders out of position and create space for others. Our general work inside the 18 yard box is pretty dire.
Now Billy, there are times when I have a lot of confidence in my problem solving abilities and that when I combine those skills with my strategic thought processes the results can be pretty impressive. However even these well honed skills appear wanting when they are directed towards the dilemma that is the Liverpool attack
But from what I've seen so far formation wise the central striker isn't playing that kind of goal poacher position. Would he push that central player further forward if Suarez went wide or still expect the central man to play the deeper role still? I'm not sure a natural poacher will be prolific from one of the wider positions so it makes me wonder where a poacher fits into the system yet.
Suarez is playing CF and he is not a goal poacher. Which always leave a vacant area in the box which no one runs into. Suarez does lot of work outside of the box - would be better for him to play as a winger/outside forward and have a natural CF in the middle.
Even though Suarez is scoring a lot I think it will benefit the team and Suarez by having a "striker" in the middle, Suarez is still going to drive at the goal no matter where he is on the pitch and having someone with good positional sense will mean that Suarez will pick him out when the shot is not an option.
I'd play it that way myself personally with Suarez on the right but when he drifts around as he inevitably will doesn't that mean the natural striker ends up switching and going wide when Suarez does that?
Exactly. He is guilty of not passing enough which shows you that he has little confidence in the players around him.
I dont think it lacking confidence but that the players we have don't take up the correct position. The commentator said against Newcastle that on one of his runs all the Liverpool players just watched him instead of looking to help him, now I know he's good to watch but that was taking the piss.
I remember that - that was pretty embarrassing but he had Suso and Sterling who were pretty static. They're not goal scorers, their positional sense inside the box is not natural to them which is understandable as they are not strikers.
And that's probably why he lacks confidence lol. But in all fairness to Shelvey, at least he got into that position in the first place. The finishing will improve with time but he already has the intelligence (shame the feet and legs aren't as quick, yet!).
