My father-in-law pointed me in the direction of this: http://www.britishpathe.com/video/soccer-star-at-home Our older members might enjoy identifying some of the un-named players here!
Captain, the ones I reconised are. Johney Haynes,Tosh Chamberlain, John Dempsey, Jim Langley, Graham Leggatt, Robin Lawler, Jimmy Hill, Tony Mecedo. My father and grandfather, often said that they were at the biggest recorded gate at the cottage, pre war over 44,000 against Milwall, Dont know if this was indeed the biggest gate.
Apart from Haynes, Macedo and Langley, who were mentioned in the voiceover, I only got Jimmy Hill (not difficult!) and Tosh. That's what I love about this board - there are people who can still make feel young!
It was indeed the biggest gate, rosc and still is. The actual attendance was 49,335, and the match was played in late 1939 (the chapter from 1935 to 1939 of The Story gives some details). PS The video was also covered in yesterday's chapter of The Story and most of the players doing their physical jerks are mentioned there and in the next couple of chapters.
