I hope hes better Arkle!! His father cost me a fortune for me in the Irish Guineas after I received word that he would reverse the newmarket form so im still bitter about it!

    Really ??

Who did you receive word about that from ?

I lost on him in the 2000 Guineas, but got it back with plenty of interest in the Derby and, luckily, never backed him in either the Irish Guineas, which I was surprised he ran in on such firm ground,or his first race back from his injury, but cleaned up on him in his final two wins !

Injury cost him chances of winning the Irish Derby and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, just as St Jovite won both of those races ,and Bolger was adamant that New Approach was a far better horse than him !

Yeah really!! Around that time my sister was seeing a fella who was working in the yard.. they thought very highly of him a bit too much for my good!! No he also gave me Teofilo and Finsceal Beo before they ran as 2 year olds as horses to follow and I remember having an each way double done for the Guineas grrr. I made my money back on finsceal though I seem to remember that i backed the horse in Listowel and it came nowhere then popped up in a group one in france ten days later and won at big odds.. But alas that relationship came to an end and I havent spoke to my sister since :p

That's a pity...I'm sure you remember there was a big hoo-ha over here when Jim Bolger had said that New Approach would not run in the Derby only to do a u-turn at the end ....the best 5/1 Derby winner since Relko in 1963....an unbelievable price really !

Yeah i think the media made a meal out of that to be honest (mightnt be that popular an opinion with a lot of people but I always found Bolger honest enough as trainers go over here!!) and a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon. I personally didnt back him for the Derby but he was an unbelievable price.. good alright personally I dont rate him as highly as other horses we have sent across but he was certainly very very handy..

Incorrect statement WLYT...he stated all along that he would bow out in the Champion Stakes just as Frankel did and he was sensational that day.

He stressed the Arc was not his type of race due to the uncertainty of the going and the draw and invariably the roughness of the race itself !

Brigadier Gerard never ran in the Arc either... though his connections knew he would never beat Mill Reef over a mile and a half !

BTW WALHAT....Jim Bolger remained adamant he was the best he had trained so far...which Irish horses would you rate above him then.....certainly none in recent years were as spectacular as he was in his Derby win pulling like a train for the first seven furlongs and yet still producing a devestating finish ?

Not really an Argument I really want to get into Arkle but for the benefit of your curiosity!! I think Sea the Stars is the best we have sent in years and years his versatility and turn of foot where unbelievable the fact he idled in front I dont think visually did himself justice and i dont think we ever got to the bottom of him. I also had high hopes for camelot this year and i hope he is not stuffed away to stud as I think he has a lot more to give granted the opposition in his classic year was poor but I think on the right ground he could be very special next year..

I respect your opinion,WLAHAT...though Camelot was unfortunate not to emulate Nijinsky and I expect him to confirm AOB's assessment as being the best he has ever trained !

Agreed STS visually didn't look as good as perhaps he was..though you must also appreciate that Zarkava was far more impressive in dealing with Youmzain in her Arc than he was, and I feel too many people were caught up in the hype surrounding the first horse to complete a 2000 Guineas/Derby/Arc treble !

Arkle are you sure you actually watched SEA THE STARS win the Arc ?. His performance was absolutely astonishing. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING went wrong during the race and he still won as he liked ;)

RV I saw STS win it and he was fortunate the gap came for him on the inside though please don't tell me he was anywhere near as impressive as Zarkava was when she won her Arc or Peintre Celebre or Sakhee or Dancing Brave etc whilst he can not be mentioned in the same breath as the most impressive of all ,Sea Bird II !

Yeah he may of been unfortunate but I do think it was a joke that he was ran in the Irish Derby this year and it would of taken a lot out of him and this coming from someone who is not a fan of ballydoyle!! that is true Zarkava was an unbelievable horse (that along with STS i personally would of loved to see stay in training) but the campaigns both horses had STS has 6 group ones in six months with the Arc being the last one there are not to many horses able to do that at 3 different distances i think is just something special. Thats why a part of me wanted to see frankel in the Arc!! but im just a greedy bastard!! Im not knocking new approach I just think one is better and hopefully the other proves hes better next year!!

WLYT's stop!...you have already rinsed and humiliated him with the "dutching argument"...play nice please!

It was painful and cringeworthy to read but hilarious at the same time...

    You follow?

You are here slating Sea The Stars whilst you 'expect' Camelot to 'prove himself' as the best AOB has ever trained.

He is gonna have a tough ask as the best horse he has ever beat is Main Sequence. His RP Trophy was a poor field. His Guineas a shocking one, and the most piss-poor Derby I can remember.

Sea The Stars had Fame and Glory, Rip Van Winkle toiling- both multiple Group 1 winners and performers since at a variety of trips.

Camelot shows a high crusing speed and **** all else and they cant be brave enough to admit they got it wrong. They thought he looked marquee material but he isnt.

They are leagues apart on what they achieved.

I appreciate Sea The Stars place amongst the icons might sometimes be overstated, but he was a remarkable horse and you wont see that sort of sequence for many a year. He and Frankel are special.

Camelot will win small field Irish Group 1s next year and maybe a Prince of Wales.

Can see him doing what So You Think did- pick up a cheap Group1 at Ascot and run away whilst his press is good.

Sea The Stara beat very good horses at a variety of trips and whilst he is not the best of all time, no one ever got to the bottom of him which is scary. Never ducked any race or challenge.
