It’s certainly not funny and I am afraid that we weren't all raving about how we had the best squad since Peter Reid. The Peter Reid squad that you refer to would embarrass this squad in every department. It had strength and quality in depth and played delightful football. Many of the players in question have under performed under Bruce and now under performed with MON at the end & start of this season. It was excruciatingly obvious then and now that the core of the team wasn’t / isn’t good to take SAFC to the next level. Middlesbrough some seasons ago were relegated with a far stronger squad “on paper” than the existing Sunderland one. Names & reputations on paper mean nothing however performances do and it’s about time many of the players put one in.
In a word “No”. Firstly you started by making a number of questionable generalisations i.e. that everyone was raving about how we have the best team since Reidy. They weren’t! You then stated that “suddenly” the team is **** bar one or two players. I explained that this team hasn’t suddenly become ****e as it’s underperformed since Steve Bruce’s era and now under MON c two years. That suggests to me that there is a fundamental problem with its overall capability and therefore it could be successfully argued that “we” don’t have a “great” squad on paper. Where we do agree is that yes its MON primary responsibility to get the team playing but if the quality and capability isn’t there then he is going to find it very difficult without an overhaul.
you have just proved beyond all doubt that it is YOU who knows nothing about football. They legitimately got the ball in your net once more than you did in theirs, so you deserved nothing. Also, what is your reasoning behind ending the OP with "FTM". Obviously, you won't respond to this post properly as you know I have well and truly clamped you up.
Ignoring the TopTierTOOL, whilst I enjoy reading your posts Cest, I think you are completely and totally wrong, along with the rest of the MON lovers. MON "Was" once a top manager, but I feel very strongly that he has had is day and is a one trick pony himself as he only knows one way to play football - Unfortunately the SAFC squad is not capable of playing that way successfully as it has already been said correctly that there is NO pace at all in the team. Sorry but we are watching a boring one-dimentional football team, devoid of all confidence and managed by a person who will not drop players who are clearly playing s***e!!!, and also playing players in their wrong positions. MON, like Bruce before him definately has blind loyalty to certain players and I hate this trait in managers!!! IMO - Sess should be dropped (I would add that I have never rated him, and is lucky to have had a very small handfull of games for SAFC when he was effective) Cuellar - why did we buy him - too slow and a MON undroppable!!! Larsson - ffs!! where do I start. TOOOOOOOOO slow and way past his best......If he has to play it must be on the right wing Colback - is not a left back, so why play him there McLean - I still rate him, but he needed a shock to his system after about 3-4 games and should have been dropped then. Hopefully he will rediscover some form in the reserves. Johnson - needs to stay out of the pub and start earning his wages. The lad is an alki. Fletcher - I genuinely feel we paid at least £8m too much for him. He has no pace and is not able to play up front by himself. This is just the tip of the iceberg and MON should be able to see this. So for me Cest (like you were with SB) - its time for MON to go before we are led into a releation scrap we will NOT win. MON has lost his way and looks like a man devoid of confidence and not knowing what to do next - Just like Bruce. I am telling you all, we will be lucky to get 4 points (probably 2 points) out of the next 4 games, and there will be more than me shouting for MONs head. I sincerely hope I am wrong, coz I love SAFC but the situation we are in is worse than it was under Bruce IMO............ Bart
Safc83 - I think you and I are very much in the minority, but will ultimately be proved right. I give MON till Xmas before he is sacked or resigns - if he is lucky. Bart
The thing is mate, I have a feeling neither will happen and that will ultimately send us down. But hey look at his past record, give him time and he will get us promoted again and lead us on to Europe
I thought we had turned the corner on Saturday, definitely unlucky to lose, at least we attacked them. Players seem to be realising that they have to step up. if we continue to play attacking football we will get results. As far as I'm concerned we are in a relegation battle now, .........and will be until we get those first good results. Or 40 points
