Does Pastor now deserve a faster car now?

I think after his small slump in form after his win at Spain, Pastor was lost in the wilds of crashing into other cars and ruining a lot of other drivers races and just unable to keep it together for longer periods within the season. But after Singapore I believed he made a crucial turn in performance and is back to the form he was at Spain, a very fast, consistent driver that rarely ballses it up. Only bad reliability and bad luck has robbed him of more points late into this season, really he has been pretty good, better than Romain and Perez who are in a better team or going to a top-tier team next year.

It's clear he has a lot speed in qualifying and his attitude while in the field is getting better by the race, I already consider him better/faster than Romain now and brings a stronger mentality unlike Grosjean who just seems too nice for F1 and is just a bloody magnet for crashes. It also looks like Pastor can control his temper far better than Perez who just swings his arm around with everybody he touches and he is never to blame.

I think (Lotus) should kick out Romain and bring in Pastor, he has won in a slower car than what Romain had this season and he brings a ton of money which would go a long way helping Lotus fight it out with the big boys over a whole season.

    Thoughts?

Well I'm a big fan of Pastor so I'm biased but it looks like his judgement on track is improving, they way he judiciously avoided the Pérez/Grosjean/di Resta scrap where Webber didn't, and of course the Webber incident earlier. I'd love to see him driving a proper contender; whether he deserves it I don't think is either here or there, he has a bad rep to overturn. But, I don't see him as less deserving than Grosjean or Pérez.

    Or Dire Resta, of course.

Since Singapore, Perez and Maldonado have swapped places. It's uncanny.

Not yet, I think he'd be best placed to stay with Williams for at least one more year.
With little change to regs next year, they've got a good base line car, improve it in certain areas and he should have a car that can contend more often for big points.
Continue to add maturity in his driving style and I think the big teams will come calling themselves rather than him going round to these teams with his bag of money!

Yes! Kick out that fake Frenchman and bring in Pastor! Would be a hell of an interesting team alongside Kimi.

Since Germany, I found a new love for him.. I'd love to see him in a Red Bull along side Vettel. I truely believe he's one of the fastest people on the grid.. even possibly the fastest on street tracks.

No, the Williams is fast enough. He still makes too many errors and apart from Monaco 2011, I've never seen anything special from him in the race. This year in Spain his car was a lot quicker than Ferrari's, but he still couldn't build a lead over Alonso.

Give him another season in the midfield and if he keeps out of trouble and shows good pace, maybe then he'll deserve a quicker car.

How do you know it was a lot quicker in Spain? Any proof, or are you simply assuming that as he won the race, it must have been far quicker!? The guy held off pressure from Alonso for a long time and didn't crack. If that had been Seb, everyone would be wetting their pants with praise.

He was doing OK in Signapore before his car let him down.
I thought I read some that he had a Kers issue yesterday that cost him 3/4tenths a lap yesterday during the race?
I think the boys got potential but agree he needs to build his race craft, needs to finish off this year strong and continue to improve next year in a already decent Williams and he may get a move to a bigger team for 2014..

Does anyone remember Vettel in 08? He was absolutely **** until mid season where TR got a decent car, good enough for top 10 easily most races.
I think Maldonado has the potential to be a world champion. The Williams may be fast.. But Senna has only gotten into Q3 once. And people say he's good.. He's beginning to be the new Webber at starts though, as I cant remember the last time he gained off the line. But in the right car, with the right mood. He's as good as anyone probably.

I think he needs another season, possibly two. Experience is definitely something that I feel he needs to tame his sometimes recklessness approach.

Do you remember 07 when Seb was fighting for the lead with Lewis and Webber at Fuji until he crashed, and the time he got 4th place at China from 17th place? And did in 1 race what Liuzzi couldn't do all season with 3 more years of experience.

Early 08 might have to do because the car was rubbish and highly unreliable, that was a real dog!

the begining of the 2nd paragraph is spot on, he needs to add maturity, he's certainly improved a lot over the last few races, and thought he was hard done by to get the penalty in Hungary tbh. I think he's one of the fastest drivers and when he adds consistency to his speed he'll be a force to be reckoned with.

I'll be able to like him more once he stops taking people out with reckless driving. But I think he is similar to Grosjean in the fact that there is a lot of raw talent there, and like many of you have said he needs to gain some maturity. Once he does that I think he will be another guy who is consistently pretty quick and if given a chance in a top drive would do well. Until that day comes though, still a little bit undecided on Pastor.

The Williams has been a much better car than the Force India yet they are losing to them in the Constructors. Pastor has made tonnes of mistakes this year. One good race doesn't change that.
