Williamson has had his good moments but he's a liability on the ground, dives in rashly, I hope we sign someone like Roger Johnson in the summer.

I rate Williamson higher than Taylor and won't criticise him for what was a nightmare TEAM game. Fault for the 3rd goal? Hardly a fault, 1st goal his header wasn't strong enough and 2nd was a complete shambles, however I can't say that Taylor wouldn't have done these errors either. They are both error prone and a CB does need to be got in the summer. I still think he should be centre back for our team.

Why don't we drop Enrique? Nolan? Ameobi? Lovenkrands? Simpson? Barton? All of whom had a shocker today, especially the latter. I agree that people SOME people don't like Williamson but many are judging him on this performance only I feel.

Because those players aren't costing the team points regularly (bar Shola and Lovenkrands but we have no one better)

Would go for Samba, Williamson is a squad player who had a disappointing game but has had a good season, I'm shocked at how quick people have been to criticises him and Simpson, yet both have done better than many of these people expected. Even nufc.com saying we need a new right back expect better from them.

They can be as 'better than expected' as they want. If they're poop, they're poop, and need to be replaced.

Good for back-up but that's it.

Never rated the guy; yes he played well for the first few games of the season, but he's been poor since.

Keep the guy, for sure, a million pound for someone who's filled in is a bargain. But we need to strengthen in that area. Haangeland? Samba? Sakho?

I think Taylor is a very good defender but he's too injury prone and takes a while to get back into his stride so we need to strengthen,.

This is very harsh on Williamson. I think people need to explain the exact moments when he has ****ed up this season and believe me they had better have cost us many many goals for him to deserve this abuse!

He wins all of his headers and is a player who gets rid, him and Colo had us at a plus GD before yesterday!! ****ing terrible that like <doh>

He had a bad day yesterday but I don't think he's been consistently bad. The last thing we need to do is get on his back and shatter his confidence altogether.

How can people say he has been poor <pullshairout>

What evidence, apart from yesterday, do people have?

He may only be average and his mistakes may cost us points, but Taylor isn't any better. Let's face every time Taylor has played this he has been woeful, this may be down to his injurys and lack of match fitness but we cant rely on him at all. For the most part, Williamson has been good this season and he seems to have a decent relationship with Colo so why break it.

However, I agree that if we are to push up the table we could do with a new CB. But it would be the least of my priorities, as we must sign one quality striker and most likely a left back.

He's shaky and i can think of several games were he's ****ed up, and many times were it hasn't cost us but very nearly did. Of recent memory, the Man Utd game when Rooney went clear because he slid in for no reason. Bolton game (but so was everyone), i'll come back when i've woken up properly with other games, but come on, do you really want him as our first choice CB next season?

    I'M NOT SAYING HE'S ****!

Just that we need and a better centre back. Williamson is good for back-up but that's about it.

I have to admit I can see some people are jumping on the bandwagon at the moment but I've always said Williamson is a weak link in our first team, followed by Simpson. I don't ever recall seeing Williamson play then thinking "he's excellent", he either gets the job done or he's miles off the pace. He's never brilliant. A much better replacement would be available in the summer for under 10 million with the likes of Scott Dann, Carlos Cuellar, Chris Samba etc playing at struggling clubs. Simpson needs to improve too, he stands off far too much and has a habit of letting people cut inside him. I still think he's far better than Williamson though.

Not fussed on him, I don't think we should settle for players of his standard, I don't care if he's "decent" or "solid enough", we need better to progress and we could easily attract and afford better.

Same goes for Simpson who can't defend at all and offers nothing in attack.

I don't get it. I'm not his biggest fan in the world, and as a footballer he's useless, but as a straightforward centre half he's perfectly adequate until we get someone better. Weak? Rubbish. Not good in the air? Absolute bollocks. When Taylor has come in he's looked far worse, so we've got Willo as first choice for at least the next 3 games.

Far more of a priority is signing a right back who will actually stay in position and close down his man to prevent the ball even getting in the mixer in the first place.

Does nobody think that Simpson often get's exposed because of Barton. Barton often drifts into the center meaning Simmo is left to provide the width. Also when defending Barton often gets sucked into the middle meaning Simmo is left to defend by himself. I think if he had a proper winger in front of him, then he would perform much better.

If we give Taylor 3/4 games on the trot he will get back to his best which is far better than Williamson IMO.

Agree that Barton doesn't offer Simmo great cover which makes his job trickier.
I haven't said Taylor is better or should be playing, I just don't have a lot of confidence in Williamson, am happy with him as 3rd choice next season, hopefully we will sign Samba/R. Johnson/Dann or similar.

His handballs leave a lot to be desired. He should learn how to handball like a real pro.
