There is a different to playing the long ball and hitting a long pass. Long balls for forwards to try and header and win the 2nd ball etc are what Stoke do... playing a long pass in behind the defence for a player to run onto, control and score is totally different.
Everytime I hear the commentators mention Gerrard's name, it is shortly followed be a disappointed groan from the crowd...

Why do you assume I'm blinded? He's played alright. You need a team that can mix it up and Gerrard's range of passing does mix it up. You can't have 11 players who pass the ball safe all the time or you get nowhere. Suarez looses the ball often, but sometimes it comes off and it's brilliant. You need players who can pass like Gerrard. And yes, he's nowhere near the Gerrard of old, but he still offers ALOT to this team.
