You learned the hard way RV and I hope you didn't put too much on Excelebration ! I didn't actually see the race yet so can't comment but Frankel annihilated Excelebration on the bridal...how far was Wise Dan ahead of him by comparison ? I will check it out later. Indeed Ron,next season even the local horses won't be able to run on lasix...it will be banned there ! Good Night Vienna !
Complete nonsense Ron...trite to the point of nausea. The BC is still captivating to a lot of racing fans. I love it...my opinion only of course. Fantastic sport, racing ours against theirs. If I had my way I would ban serial drunk drivers/criminals training racehorses..but hey...
Evening SA...I could have warned you against backing the QDLR today if you were on and saved you some cash. Slower than slow...only got up last year in deep gound in the shadow of the old lolly pop. Todays ground was y/s..(gd/sft..Toddy's my mate btw) and he was always gonna be outpaced. KS was a shoe in since he chased home todays probable winner in the TC last year..quite simple with a little analysis.. Stay posted...you might learn something to your advantage. I may have one for you tomorrow..might share...not sure..
I like the Breeders Cup event but the obvious draw and track bias is starting to piss me off. Why have oval tracks?! Disappointing European field I felt, before we went, and the result bears that out. We were missing any of our real top stars bar the BC Mile race where Wise Dan was a worthy winner.
True Toppy...but how many of our courses are draw dependent?....loads...Chester makes Santa Anita look like the Rowley Mile. Different challenge..thats why some of us like it. To make an issue of the medication horses run on is b******s...we had 5 winners in 2009 in SA.
Anyway guys...its been a long day..15 hrs to be precise! Currently confined to the conservatory. Always good to share a bit of advice though. I was fortunate enough to ne in the O & T bar for much of the day at DR and all opined that QDLR would need the run..he looked like a barrel tbh. Those who sided with him were like innocent lambs to the slaughter... Good call RV on the winner...a few bubbles were flowing with us and you as well hopefully. Really all about knowing the game and getting the correct information one supposes...
Point Of Entry was a jailcase beat, Johnny V done well to stay on him, surprised the horse stayed on its feet, but for that he wins comfortably. Wise Dan was my bet of the meeting at 11/4, two biggest bets were him and Executiveprivilege, had a good bit on Royal Delta and Point Of Entry aswell. Apart from them I didnt really fancy much strongly and didnt even have a bet in the classic. It all revolved around Wise Dan for me so ended up a good meeting but cant say I enjoyed it much until that race.
Arkle nope I only had a small bet. Would have been a big bet for me had I not watched the racing on Friday. I commented on this thread " I tell you what the big bet I was planning on Excelebration tomorrow is well and truly cancelled after watching the racing tonight"
It is certainly not nonsense Dexter; it is potentially cruel. It's not the cheating I'm concerned about. This is an old topic about which I feel very strongly so I won't go there again because we obviously will never agree on this one.
OK Ron. I feel US racing is actually very interesting and am somewhat dismayed at the continual aloofness displayed on here when it comes to discussing it. Each to their own I suppose!
Dex, I watch it every year. That Wise Dan is some horse. He won his previous race without being asked and he won this one very impressively. He seemed unextended and still broke the course record.
I vaguely remember that race Ron!...he was superb but I hope no one starts extrapolating the form and suggesting he would of given Frankel a race.
Must say i really enjoyed the BC (didn't advise bets on here so won't disclose them now for fear of after timing) but I do think the European horses struggled with handling all the trurns. That said, I don't neecssarily think it would have amde a difference to the results. On the whole the French seemd to have their hoprses better prepared than our ones and I am beginning to wonder why some trauiners persist in sending theirs over as it's almost as though they're not taking it that seriously. Certainly i'd be very wary of betting on anything British or Irish over there. Nonetheless, t'was a good 2 evenings and now let the national hunt season begin in earnest!
Fair point DB. Love to see the BC at Belmont asap...proper big track and obviously closer in distance and climate for our contenders.
Yeh i prefer Belmont. But even though i thought it was a lifeless and boring BC meet,I do still love it. But the over-riding factor for me of the whole meeting for me was the inability of our euro-jockeys to be as tactically competent as our American cousins. At times it was embarrassing to see.Especially Buicks ride on the Fugue and Hughes's ride on Sky lantern to name a couple.
