SUNDERLAND go into their penultimate away game of the season at Bolton on Saturday with more injury worries after Jordan Henderson and Lee Cattermole picked up knocks in Saturday’s defeat to Fulham.

Henderson was substituted with just 15 minutes of Saturday’s game to go, while Cattermole went into the game already carrying a knock.

And both players will now be assessed over the course of the next 24 hours to see if they can play against Bolton.

Manager Steve Bruce said: “It’s too early to tell yet whether or not Jordan and Lee are doubts.

“But both have knocks that will have to be assessed and that’s a concern given how serious our injury situation already is.

“I can’t see either Asamoah Gyan or Danny Welbeck being back after their hamstring injuries and obviously that’s a problem when you lose both your remaining strikers – it would hurt anybody.

“If you look at Fulham going towards Christmas, they were in the bottom three because they were were without Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson up front.

“They struggled but their squad is healthy now and ours is nowhere near. Even Ryan Noble and Billy Knott got injured ahead of the game against Fulham when they might have had a chance of making the squad ... and they’re in the youth team!”

Regardless of what team Bruce puts out on Saturday though, he’s expecting them to show the right attitude at the Reebok.

“We’re struggling but all you can do is show a little bit resilience, roll your sleeves up and give it a go.

“We have to the flak and look to produce a performance.”

“I’m convinced that if everyone had been fit, we’d have been all right and been on course for a successful season.”

That team doesn't actually look that bad, as long as Meyler's not rusty. I'm not happy about the central defence, though :(

    1. So Catts was carrying an injury and he still played??? Then SB moans about what is causing the injuries?

    2. Danny Welbeck played against Wigan when he had clearly not recovered from his hamstring injury? Then SB moans about what is causing the injuries?

    3. Allows Noble & Knott to play in a meaningless midweek youth game when we are so short of numbers? Then SB moans about what is causing the injuries?

So maybe there lies the problem, players declaring themselves fit when they are clearly not! Perhaps out of some sort of loyalty to SB, knowing what pressure he is under?

The medical staff should have a say in matters and the manager makes the final call on whether to field a player, or not. Because of the shortage of numbers, he is taking calculated risks playing players who are carrying injuries. Unfortunately, it's failed time and time again over the last few months.

As for Noble & Knott? That was a crazy call, to allow them to play midweek.

but they would surely both need match practice? We havent just chucked meyler back in, because he will be getting match practice like the young lads.

Obviously we took a risk with Welbeck last week but to be fair, we had to because we didnt look like scoring in other games and theres no cover. Hederson is just wear and tear, if we had a fit squad, he would probably be on the bech because hes been played out and with Cattermole, obviously hes declared himself fit and you cant really argue against that surely?

If Richardson is fit then he's by far our best chance of getting goals. Is he fit?

Can someone injure turner? He is an utter liability and I've been saying for ages he is a championship cart horse. It just shows that it was Bramble who was the leader of the pair when things were going well. What are we doing in training where every squad from first team to youth have massive injuries at crucial parts of the season. Its shocking!

I think Bruce will play Nedum up front from the start. If its the Chelsea away Nedum it could be a moment of genius. However, I expect the Fulham at home Nedum who looked a little bemused by it all. Are we panicking yet?

Bruce is a ****ing idiot. No striker fit so he plays both Knott and Noble in the youth team and they both get injured. Is this guy for real?
