The game is scheduled to take place at Anfield on Sunday 4th November 2012 with a kick-off time of 4PM. Sky Sports One will be showing the game and BBC Radio Five Live have the radio rights to the game. Preview. After a midweek which was dominated by the Capital One Cup, the Premier League returns and the battle for those all important Premier League points resumes. On Sunday, Liverpool welcome Newcastle United to Anfield. Liverpool & Newcastle United go into the game in a mid-table position but both sides will be looking to collect those all important three points and start to push towards the upper echelons of the Barclays Premier League table. The home side, Liverpool, will be looking for a response after a disappointing result on Wednesday. In midweek, Liverpool welcomed Swansea City to Anfield in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup. Swansea City won that game by three goals to one and Liverpool were thoroughly outplayed throughout that game and didnât deserve to go through into the quarter-finals of the competition they won last season. This isnât the ideal preparation for Sundayâs Barclays Premier League game. Some of Liverpoolâs fringe players were given the opportunity to impress the manager, Brendan Rodgers, and try to force their way into the Premier League side but not many players will have done that. It was a disappointing performance from the Liverpool side and this will mean that those fringe players seem unlikely to secure a spot in the side for todayâs game. With this in mind, the usual suspects would be expected to start. In goal, there are still fitness doubts over Liverpoolâs regular number 1, Pepe Reina, and this could mean Austrailian international Brad Jones continues his run in the first-team. In defence, there are still fitness concerns over the right-back Glen Johnson and this could mean that he misses out on this game to recover from a muscle spasm. This could mean that Andre Wisdom keeps his right-back slot with the Spaniard Jose Enrique continuing at left-back. In midfield, the three of Joe Allen, Steven Gerrard & Nuri Sahin will be expected to start as they have done in most of Liverpoolâs Premier League games. Players such as Jordan Henderson & Jonjo Shelvey could be brought on if & when they are needed. If, as expected, Steven Gerrard does start today, it will be his 600th appearance for Liverpool. This is an outstanding record and the Liverpool captain will be looking to mark this record with a Liverpool victory or maybe even a goal... In attack, Luis Suarez will again lead the line. Suarez is the only senior striker Liverpool have fit & available and he will be expected to lead the line in just about every game up until January when attacking reinforcements will be brought. Alongside Suarez, the likes of Raheem Sterling, Suso & Oussama Assaidi will be battling for the two positions beside Suarez. Sterling & Suso played in those positions beside Suarez in the Merseyside Derby last weekend and they seem the most likely to start there with Assaidi coming off the bench if needed. The away side, Newcastle United, will be looking to continue a winning run after collecting the three points last weekend with a last-minute victory over West Bromwich Albion at St. James Park. They didn't play in midweek because Newcastle were beaten by Manchester United in the third round of the Capital One Cup. The winning goal was a rather lucky one with a shot from Newcastle forward Sammy Ameobi coming off the arse of Papiss Cisse and deflecting into the net past the West Bromwich Albion 'keeper Ben Foster. With Cisse one a bit of a goal drought before that, a goal like that would have been a good confidence booster for the Senegalese striker. This goal for Cisse has come at an important time with Newcastleâs other Senegalese striker, Demba Ba, a doubt with a calf injury and he could miss out. He is expected to undertake a late fitness test so he could play but if he isnât 100%, Newcastle may not want to risk him with a busy schedule coming up. One player who will definitely miss out is Newcastleâs enforcer Cheick Tiote. The midfielder is serving the second of a three-match ban after being sent off in the Tyne-Wear derby a couple of weeks ago. James Perch will be expected to come in alongside Yohan Cabaye in the middle of the park. Apart from that, Newcastle are at just about at full-strength. The only other injury concerns are longer-term (As you can see in the Injury/Suspension News section) In defence, I would expect a back four as follows: Simpson â Williamson â Coloccini â Santon With Ryan Taylor a long-term injury concern, this is the defence Alan Pardew has played in recent weeks. Coloccini has performed extremely well since Newcastle were promoted back to the Premier League a few seasons ago and has shown his qualities. One change that could take place could see Mike Williamson drop out with Steven Taylor coming in alongside Coloccini in the middle of the defence. In recent weeks, Liverpool have used Glen Johnson (A right-back) at left-back and Newcastle also employ this tactic. Italian international Davide Santon started out at right-back but plays left-back for Newcastle and has performed well since moving to the left-hand side. He will be charged with stopping Suso from getting on the ball and playing passes and that is an important battle. So, an interesting game in prospect. With the table still so tight, a win for either side could make their start to the season look a lot better. Weâve also had some absolute classics over the years (I think we all know what iâm referring to...) and could we be in store for another? Was worried Chris Great thread as usual... A win today would do wonders considering the Everton match.
I actually think Suso has been miles better than Sterling the last 3 or 4 games, Id be tempted to start Assaidi for Sterling but I think BR will start with Raheem Great thread again Chris.
Thank god for that, well done Chris, was getting withdrawal symptoms from the lack of your excellent match threads.
We certainly need a win especially after our rivals all flopped yesterday, lets take advantage of it.
