I feel as though i am falling out of love with the club. Is it all the false dawns? Is it the lack of passion the players seem to have? or is it the realisation that we will never be any better than mediocre? Im not quite sure.

Today was the first tme in 4 years that i didnt go to the game when i was able to. Due to work commitments the only games i get to go to are 3 o clock on a saturday home games butvfor some reason i simply didnt want to go today. I sat at home and listened to radio newcastle and at the end of the game i realised something that quite shocked me i didnt really care that we had just lost. I remember the times when a defeat would mean my whole week was ruined but today i just didnt feel anything just a wierd feeling that i kind if knew it was coming.

I have always loved my team and felt the ups and downs usually the downs made me fall deeper in love with the team but recently i just feel distanced from the whole club.

Do i want us to change manager? No i dont as we have done it so often these last 10 years since peter reid and nothing has really changed although a lot has been promised each time. The league cup this season had me dreaming of wembley as did the fa cup last season but both times we failed massively at the critical moment.

I heard an interview with mon before the game saying we are not yet an established premier league team. We are in our 5th season back the longest we have ever spent in the so called promised land. Teams like stoke west brom and newcastle have all arrived back here since we did and all have arguably over taken us with much less investment than we have had. The mags situation in particular is a bitter pill to swallow.

I guess what i am really trying to say is i want my club back and i want to feel the love again but i dont know how me or the club can find ourselves in love again.

Sorry if i have bored anyone as i probably sound like a lovesick teenager but i am increasingly dissilutioned at the moment

RedNW I feel your pain mate.
    Especially about the false dawns.
Do I still think MON can get the lads heads sorted?
    Yep.
    But!
It is going to take a drastic change in the way we start off games imho.
We are relying far too much on being solid defensively at the expense of attacking.
I honestly believe we should be a comfortable top ten team by now.
With a little bit of hope for scraping around for Europe.

You're 25. I'm 50. Been that way all my life, but at least I saw the Cup win in 1973.

Thing is, it's like a marriage. You find a bird, love her to bits, and start growing old together. You'll see plenty other fit birds along the way, but will you do the dirty on her?

Having an affair, to me, is like running off and supporting Man Utd. I can see the attraction, but it will never last. Besides, your wife may have offers of her own! You leave SAFC and there's always someone to take your place.

    My two favourite games ever.
    1973 FA final.
And the epic play off against Charlton.
One we won one we lost but I was proud as **** after both of them.

Please don't forget you younger ones us oldies had to watch THIRD DIVISION football.
Where the only entertainment was in the fighting after the match.
Whilst we are still in the Premier League in the World, there is still hope.

Cheering the lads off after getting beaten, as we were applauding the effort.

Cheers guys i know we are all in the same boat and weve all seen too many false dawns and bad times supporting the lads but in a way thats what makes us some of the very best fans in the world. We know that whatever happens we will still support the lads even when there are times when they dont deserve it.

As for supporting man utd its like cheating in any form of life makes you feel good for a moment but doesnt give you any true satisfaction

Aldershot, Southend, Chester, the list goes on.

Still, out of the fire came Marco, Gatesy, the Div 3 title and a rise to the top flight under Denis Smith. So all is not yet lost...

The original post strikes a chord with me mind.

I was hungover to **** today, dragged my sorry arse to the ground, despite having none of my usual pre-match optimism, and sat there thinking 'what the **** am I doing here..'.

I love going to the match, but I had none of the excitement in the walk over the bridge, up to the ground, and to my seat.

I hardly felt a load better after either , of course.

A couple of times in the bad old days we went to away matches knowing from the outset we would be tonked.
We went with enough money to get there and get in for the game.
Then hitch hiked back, usually in the rain.

I was a BIB for good reason he just didn't seem to have a Plan B.
We have to give MON a chance to prove he has a Plan B.
The ball is in his court, he must be able to see the same things we do.

It does seem over the years we have always just failed to take that next step.

This has sort of summed up exactly why i didnt go today minus the epic hangover.

I used to love the walk to the ground it made the hairs on my neck stand up when i saw the ground and all the fans roaring when the lads came out but its not like that at the moment as the games are just so drab.

I dont mind us being bad funnily enough one of my fondest memories of supporting sunderland was a 3 1 defeat to charlton when we scored 3 ogs in 7 minutes as the atmosphere 2nd half was possibly the best ive ever witnessed. It was a case of everyone laughing at us so we will join in, in a typically dry humoured sunderland fashion. The whole ground sung all 2nd half and mexican waves broke out it was just par for the course for a sunderland fan. I was 16 at the time and i have learnt since that there are generally more bad times than good times with this club and its best just to enjoy the ride whatever comes our way.

Aye, things were different then, the club was ****ed, we knew it, we got on with it.

In the event, most of that season was spent just enjoying football, no pressure, remember the standing ovation when Arsenal went 4-0 up against us, I think Henry applauded the crowd, realizing we were appreciating the brilliance on show, despite it being to our detriment.

Billionaire gaffer, international, flair players, a solid defence, one of the best young keepers in Europe, 5 star academy, fabulous stadium, 42k today, yet we are absolute garbage.

That's the killer, we rightly expect more at the moment, so not only is it a kick in the teeth, it's like someones bumming your bird while your at the dentist afterwards.

MR i have always tried to give managers longer than most as continous change is not constructive as every trnsafer window it seems like we are trying to create a whole new team. Mon has until at least christmas for me even if we are truly gash at the moment. I was behind bruce all the way till the last minute of his last game which ironically was down to a complete player **** up but it was the final straw and it was no suprise he went afterwards.

Monsmush very good scenario for what our current predicent feels like.

    Agreed about Christmas.
Lets get over the Christmas period and take stock then.
With a fully fit squad there can be no excuses for not improving from what we are watching right now.

Its totally flummoxing me, we have some really good players who aren't firing on all cylinders as a team.

A good start for me would be both Saha and Fletcher starting.
