It is easy to say that but without wishing to condemn I prefer to wait and watch and hope. I have castigated players for diabolically poor performances but am always ready to cheer them on for as long as they wear our colours. I may have only played Sunday League standard but I know how it felt when getting slated for a poor performance. Such comments can either make you try too hard or simply give up.

Fox is a prime example this season. He has been slated persistently but not all of his problem is down to him. He has looked better playing for his country than for us and I question how much more at ease he is when wearing his national colours than when down here with us. With our defence struggling so much each member of it must be under enormous pressure and sadly any error of judgement seems to cost us every time.

You may say that the club is failing but life isn't that simple. They say never kick a dog when it's down but boy some certainly enjoy doing just that instead of trying to find an answer that would help.

I dont enjoy it at all , its systematic of this football club regardless of who is in charge to balls it up , thats just us , but the difference is here this time we have money , a businessman in charge , a new stadium , everythung is in place for us to push on to the next level and what do we so in the summer before getting into the premiership ?
Nothing , we were languid , slow and sloppy , we should of be straight out the racing blocks , what were our scouts doing ?
So in the end we sign some real gamble buys for the price and Ramirez who is a great player but not a good buy , for the money we should of spent on defenders or we should of got more defenders along with Ramirez .

I have been thinking the same thing in regards to having an incredibly tough start, but it's uphill from here until January when obviously, everything effectively almost resets. I decided to have a little look at the previous and upcoming fixtures of us and the rest of the bottom seven (i.e. the main relegation candidates), and because I'm just that boring I thought I'd do it in Excel, and I though I might as well share it with you all.

Basically that's the positions of all the fixtures so far, the amount of games played, the total of all the positions added together, and then the average. Obviously the lower the average the harder the fixtures.

They key is obviously the average position, so we have had narrowly the second hardest fixtures in the league so far after QPR, they are bottom and we are second bottom, coincidence? That's of course not to say they are bottom and we are second bottom only because of the fixtures, because both teams have been poor so far, but it is obviously a huge factor.

Then there's a jump up to Reading, another little jump up to Stoke, and then there's Villa, Sunderland and Norwich all on around 10. Coincidentally, I thought I'd check out West Ham since they came up in the same boat as us, and their average is a whopping 13.5 (before the City game), which I believe after some quick tallies is by a distance the easiest set of fixtures in the league... I'll let you take what you want from that. :p

From here though, our average is almost up with West Hams up at 13.2, which you may have guessed as shockingly the averages will roughly add up to around 20.

Some people might have a 'Well duh, you don't say.' reaction to this as it's fairly apparent we've had a very tough start and we've got a good run of fixtures ahead, but I think it's nice to see it in numbers and in black and white just so we can see it really has been that hard and it does get that much better. Of course our run of fixtures doesn't guarantee we'll be picking up wins every week and charging up the table, but it's just another reason for faith and optimism. We've got a great run in til January, at which point we have the funds and the ability to strengthen, and then it's basically reset for the second half of the season and off we go on our charge to safety! It all sounds so easy, doesn't it? Hopefully it will be, but I can't help but think we'll make it much harder on ourselves than that. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

That last statement is definitely one that I agree with sadly. It's the Saints way.

As a scientist, I always find it really exciting when the experimental data backs up the theory as well as yours does Mikey. Congratulations on having the patience to get all that together. It certainly puts a much more optimistic slant on things, but of course the fact remains that we still need to actually put points on the board at some stage!

I think GMI's reaction was what Mikey anticipated as "Well, duh, you don't say", only not expressed as well!

I am not too sure he understands anything that doesn't come out of his own mouth/keyboard. Well done on taking the time to do something that constructs a proper argument.

3-2. Lambert scored in the 9th and 12th minute. Shane Long then got a goal in the 34th and 41st minute. Yoshida scored in the 87th minute to win it.

Pretty handy spreadsheet. Dead chuffed about the win as well

I think you might be giving him too much credit there mate, I'm not sure he understands how to dress himself in the morning let alone the words that come out when he repeatedly mashes his face into his keyboard to create his flawless, thorough and reasoned arguments.

If you go to Sheet 3 of the workbook, Nigel Adkins turns down the Liverpool management post to stay at Southampton after getting us into the Europa League.
