IF we are going to change manager it should be before January to allow new man to see what's needed to secure survival , I think Cortese has got himself in a corner by saying we will not get relagated while he is in charge so I think that makes Adkins position more difficult,

A question for gomarchingin ,would you have sacked Laurie Mac after his first season getting us relegated ?

Maybe they're in the top half because they have an extra 3 points from having played us and the ones in the bottom half haven't yet <laugh>

I don't know, you can never be certain a new manager will save you. Personally I think Adkins is as likely to turn it around as anyone else is.

Different eras and different expectations and wasnt Bates in charge at the start of that season ? Its like saying would we sack someonoe brought in now to keep us up , if they failed they would walk as they have not succeeded in the goals set out so it depends on what McMenemy's goals were ?
Obviously if we sacked Adkins our new charge would be tasked with keeping us up , if he failed with that he should go .

What dream world are 99% of this board on ? we are the worst team in this league by a mile at the moment and unless some miracle happens we could be could be challenging derby for the worst points total in a season ....

The world where being a football fan lets you hope for the unexpected, one where you can dream of over achieving following back to back promotions. The kind where when you were a kid and stood on the terraces you thought anything was possible.

The alternative is to read the Daily Mail.....
    That is all.

We've already got more than a third of their points total with only a quarter of the season gone, we'll beat them no problem! And as the OP points out, the fixtures are only going to get easier.

The fixtures are not going to get any easier ! Thats what the results thus far have shown - that there are no 'easy' games. The only way is up and Saints will have to play to the best of their ability for 90+ minutes in every game to have any hope of climbing the league, starting at the Hawthorns on Mon night. COYR !!

There is a big difference in that Nigel has been here for two seasons and has had the time and the capital to improve the squad. I honestly believe he thought that he would be able to improve our defence but has been unable to for one reason or another. Come January I believe he will find someone to shore up our defence and possibly add a strong midfield player who can drive the team on when flagging.

So therefore if he did try in the summer and failed whats to say he wont fail in the winter ? If you throw enough money at something you will get someone (please guys its a figure of speech not a statement of intent) , I refer Eto to Anzhi .
I can only assume someone was pulling the strings and did not want bread and butter non glamourous defenders but a sparkly midfielder/playmaker either way its been a failure , or can we not attract players when we are in the Premiership with money ?

The spending of £30m+ is not really the only concern when spending. It is the decision whether we can both afford a players wages and whether he will fit our system. Our team reminds me a lot of when we had the Dutch experiment where we had some skill but lacked muscleYes I know we have the likes of Lambert and Hooiveldt but neither is what you would call the n nasty bullying type.

When you consider the players bought in the summer they all have some skill but none are what you would call muscular with the possible exception of Mayuka. Buying such players who have done well at their previous clubs you have to question whether they are being used in the same way as they have been used to previously. If not then they need bedding in and hopefully that process is nearly fulfilled and we will see the likes of Mayuka, Rodrigues, Yoshida, Clyne etc start proving that they were not a waste of money.

If we still go down(don't like to use the r word yet) it could be that we bought badly or that the basis of our team wasn't as good as we thought. Maybe we need to look at the style of play and revert to something like 4-4-2. Not that I suggest that is the answer but we may need to do something before long to address the situation.

I could tell you that now , they either overestimated the teams levels of skill and performance or understimated the PremierLeague , either way its a mistake .

That may be but we will never know which players we tried to sign without success.
