Hello and welcome to the all new and improved Match day Hub which is now the official place for Gillingham fans, I decided to update this so that you will know where to go and chat before and during the game.
I always post this a few days before the match so you can start to create a debate before the game on what you think will happen in the upcoming game, you can post who you think should play in the game and why. In addition to that you may share with us what you think the team will be that plays as that may be different to the team which you think should play, if you think a certain player should not play you can share with us the reason why as it is good to know what the fans think about the team and why certain players should not be in the team if you want to tell us why.
So all you need to do is post your starting 11 plus the 7 which you think will be on the bench, you may be correct or not but it don't matter as no points are awarded it is just for fun.
If I am not at the game I will normally post updates about what is going on and the team which is playing, but when I go to games I write up a match report afterwards.
You can post freely during and after the game sharing your opinion with us on the result and what you thought of the players who played. If you go to the game it would be great if you could write up a match day report telling up what you think of the result and what you rate each player out of 10 giving a reason why.
This is open to both Gillingham fans and also the opposition, don't be afraid to post just because you are not a Gills fan if it is friendly banter that is allowed.
Have fun and debate freely!

Just want to add aswell if you do any bets you can share with us what you think is the best bet, I do bets each week so I will share them with you if you want.

I would change it around for the FA Cup...

Nelson

Fish, Flanagan, Barratt, Jackman

I'm not sure what the current situation is in regards to loans etc. with Evans and Essam, otherwise I would have them both in the side for this game, resting Fish and Flanagan or maybe even Barratt or would that be fatal, as Barratt holds it together. Otherwise we could just replace Barratt at the back for Framps. I know Essam would be match fit having played for Luton, not sure about Evans.

Vincelot

Lee, Payne, Montrose

Burton, Birchall

I wouldn't mind if we rested Barrett, honestly I don't care about a cup run this year, promotion has to be the priority. I know cup runs bring in a few extra pounds but with the cash inflow from the Gazza, Jarvis and Bertrand I don't think the coffers are suffering too badly. Play the fringe players, blood some youngster, are we allowed to field the U21s?

I wouldn't go that far BSG.

But I reckon there will be 4 or 5 players that will play Saturday, not Tuesday.
I trust MA to get those players in the correct game.

Both matchday squads should be good enough. It's not as if we have a 1st X1 and a reserves. We have 20 first-teamers imho.

I forgot about Davies! <doh>

Hoadie - I thought Miller had gone out to a non-league club somewhere? (I could be wrong).

Anyone heard Martin Allen's press conference? Very funny stuff! Last Saturday Scunthorpe played MK Dons in League One! Martin Allen sent Russell Wilcox, the former assistant manager at AFC Bournemouth, at the time of the game without a new club, who lives in the Scunthorpe area to do a scouting report for Gillingham! On Monday Alan Knill was sacked and Brian Laws took over with Russell Wilcox being named his assistant! Due to this Russell Wilcox has kept the scouting report!

Whatever team MA picks let's hope it is the one that gets the Gills into to next round and a step nearer to play another Premiership club in round 3 like last season. I am hoping there will be good cup atmosphere at Priestfield tomorrow.

That's good, I would include him in my team, maybe just the bench and bring him on in the second half, I have a feeling this is due to Martin being out.

A question I put forward for MA via Ben in regards to tomorrow...

1 Nov 12 Ben Croucher ‏@BenCCroucher
Off to go talk to the Maddog himself Martin Allen. Anything you want to know?

1 Nov 12 brb_GFC ‏@brb_gfc
@BenCCroucher How does he feel going into this Sat's FA Cup tie and any potential impact on our league priorities?

1 Nov 12 Ben Croucher ‏@BenCCroucher
@brb_gfc league unaffected. Could help. Win or lose, gills will still be on top form. Wants to create history in cup with Gills

With Miller out on loan and Essam back my team would be as followed

Nelson

Fish
Davies
Barrett
Jackman

Vincelot

Lee
Montrose
Dack

Burton
Birchall

Subs
Forecast
Essam
Frampton
Payne
Weston
Strevens
Kedwell

I am not sure about how many young ones are out on loan because it would be nice to see a few however we do need to make sure the team is strong as this is not the League cup.

I will be at the game tomorrow, will post a review after the game some time in the evening.

Birchall is on the bench but no Essam I think it is 5 on the bench I am at the game but did not count, I think that may be the number for the Fa cup.

What a result, 4-0 against a team who is supposed to be in the League above us, well not by that result are they, but then again we are in a league of our own, it was nice for that result as I had my nephew with me for only the second time and only the first time he come just with me as he is only 10 but he was happy to see a win, he seems to bring good luck as he come last year when we won against Bristol Rovers 4-1.

Today has been a great day and yet another great result for Gillingham football club, playing a team who is in the league above us and winning is brilliant, it don’t matter where they are in the league we have beat them and that makes me very happy to be a gills fans, but not only did we beat them we destroyed them in the second half, once we had our first we did not look like we were going to give up and play out to the end of the game, we went in search of another goal and then after that we were in control. To win 4-0 against anyone is good but against a team in the league above is amazing, overall the whole team should be happy with the job that they have done today but there are a few who stand out from the crowd like normal as some had very key roles in the 4-0 demolition of Scunthorpe those are Fish, Whelpdale and Weston, but I think the others also done a good job today and I am yet again proud to be a fan of Gillingham football club.
Nelson 7- He did not have to do much, he had to play the ball up the pitch a few times but I can’t remember him having to make many saves today as we were attacking most of the time, when he was needed he was there and I was happy with him.
Fish 9- This was yet again another brilliant performance from the highly improved Matt Fish, he has been my player of the year so far as he has been so good. He was great going forward and also great at the back, also he is getting better in the air as he won a few headers and worked hard at the back to make sure that Scunthorpe did not break through the back also good to see him get a goal yet again which is good for him and also us as we want to see other players on scoreboard other than Whelpdale, Burton, Weston or Kedwell.
Davies 7- He done what he needed to do, he was good in the air and put the ball up the pitch a few times, some not resulting in anything but he done his job and that is what I like about him, also I like how he won the ball and went on a run as he seems to be very confident attackingly for a defender.
Barrett 7- He done his job just like Davies, not as great in the air like normal but he was under a little bit more pressure than he usually is but other than that I was happy with him.
Jackman 7- You may question why I put that so low even though he got us a penalty and also put the cross in which Birchall scored but my reason to this is that he did not have his best game as a few times he misplaced his pass and put it too short, also there was a few times when he was passed the ball and did not control it properly however that may just be where he wants to impress and stay in the team, however I would still put him in the team over Frampton.
Dack 5- He was not on the pitch long and did not get to do much, I am not sure if his sub was tactically or due to a knock he took at around the 10th minute as he was not at full pace after that.
Payne 8- He was brilliant today, he was in the game from start to finish, what I like about Jack today was how he got stuck in just like normal and how he loves to take the ball off the opposition in midfield and play it forward to Weston or Burton, he worked very hard today and his tackling was good also his passing was of a good standard.
Vincelot 8- I really like Romain, he looks so good at this level and was too much for Scunthorpe to handle, he gets stuck in like Payne does and does get hurt here and there but I really like him and he took the ball off Scunthorpe a few times today and run it forward creating a few chances, he was great running aswell and does not seem to lose the ball much. I would be very happy if we could sign him in January.
Whelpdale 8- He was brilliant yet again today, he did lose the ball a few times that is why this is not a 9 out of 10 but he worked from start to finish and was great to set up the first goal from Fish where he shot and it was parried and then Fish popped up to score, also before that he got the ball and tried to get a goal a few times, overall this was another good game for Chris.
Burton 8- This was the first time he has played well at Priestfield and not only did he play good he was excellent, good to see him get his first goal at home but other than that he worked well and linked up well with Weston throughout the game and I have to say from that performance it is good to have him there when we don’t have Kedwell in the team.
Weston 8- Yet again he worked hard like normal, he does not stop running, and he is one of the fastest players around and is great at this level, he kept on trying to get us a goal and had the ball passed through to him a few times and sadly did not get a goal but he was played the ball a lot in the air so he done well to try and get a goal from some of the opportunities.
Subs
Lee 7- He is not at full pace yet but it is nice to see him back as we have missed him at times even though we are top of the league, he worked hard after coming on for Dack but was not at his best. He worked hard and also done well in the air, it is nice to see 3 players on the pitch he can take a long throw aswell. I think Whelpdale and Weston done the running today so he did not have as much to do. Hopefully he plays against Cheltenham.
Kedwell 7- He done well after he come on and worked hard, also he scored another penalty so that is now 11 goals this season but 7 of them are penalties, hopefully he will get a few more from open play soon but overall he was good today.
Birchall 7- He was great after he come on, I really wanted him to get a goal and he did so, not the greatest goal but it is a goal and that will do a lot for his confidence as hopefully he will be in the first team in the league soon which will give us more options. He does look good and looks hungry to get a goal and makes good runs forward and also comes back well, but not as much as Kedwell.
Overall a great result and good atmosphere today, today has totally shown that Football is a game of two halves as the first half was not great but the second half was totally different.
My man of the match is the same as the official one and that is Matt Fish yet again after another great performance, I am very happy with how he done today and also all season.
So who are you all hoping for in the second round, I am not really sure who I want?
